I understand, I've been hit square in the forehead with a semi-crushed (and unfortunately semi-empty) beer can mid-song before... you get REAL pissed, real fast. But shit's gonna happen. Handling it the wrong way encourages douchbags to replicate it.

I don't agree at all. How are you supposed to handle it? Play the rest of the song and the say, calmly, "Uh sir, please stop throwing beer bottles at me"? I understand that someone yelling for your old band's songs isn't the same thing, but imagine that happening night, after night, after night, after night, after night. I mean I'd get pissed to after a while (well, I'd probably get pissed off the second time).

All I'm saying is that none of us know the facts about this particular incident.

I someone came into my office once a day and yelled, "EMAIL THE TPS REPORT TO MARKETING BEFORE NOON!!!", I would tear their fucking head off after day 2, trust me.

Just put yourself in his black, leathery, gothy shoes for a sec.

..do you recall how I did handle it? As soon as the song was over, I grabbed the empty newcastle bottle off my amp, and then looked in the crowd for who was about to get it in their face. And I was going to do it, right or wrong. But then I saw it was Brett that threw it (thinking he'd be funny) and put it back down, and chewed him out later.

My only point is, look at where his reactions have gotten him. Same for ryan adams. Put myself in his shoes? Sure, I get you, nobody wants to deal with that shit. But how is it that 98% of other regular, touring artists don't have his kind of breakdowns on stage? Don't Tell me they don't deal with shit too.

edit: 2001 posts. woo hoo!

Slightly off topic: I saw Corgan on a late night show and that has got to be the worst EVER version of "To Love Somebody". I always thought the Pumpkins sucked duck parts, but Corgan solo deserves to be pelted with pennies.

Ever see him sing the nat'l anthem at that chicago game? Oh man that wasn't good. I cannot imagine why he agreed to do that. I don't wanna see James Hetfield sing it either.

But if you do that, everyone should get pissed if he walks off stage.

you're confusing the guy throwing the pennies with the rest of the crowd who paid to get in, wants to be there, had been enjoying the show up till then, and is now posting about it.

What guy? I'm talking the WHOLE CROWD frisbeeing pennies at the cueball. He should be Nick Gildered, physically threatened so bad that he's too scared to ever again return to the stage.

I saw him and it was an unusual show. He started some songs and ended in the middle. But guess what, I'd see him again in a second. It was that good, imo.

Dude this kind of shit happens all the time. You don't think Ryan Adams and Billy Corgan get more press when they do it?

When I become a big famous rock star, Free Bird is going to be one of our standards.

Tori Amos deals with hecklers in a rather blunt fashion. Paraphrasing: You paid good money for that seat, you should sit down and listen to the concert. The funny thing is, it usually works.

When I went to see Clan of Xymox recently, someone kept yelling out "Obsession". After about the 10th time, the lead singer guy responded with "...speaking of obsession..."

Plus you get a better view of her cooter from that position.

(sigh) dammit it's a lot of work to explain this all out, and I still have a gut feeling you're just fucking with me anyway.

1. "What, Famous?" No, more heckled than he would've been otherwise, in addition to being (correctly, I'm sorry to say it) known as sorta whiney. He's a whiney guy. I like him too, a lot, but he's whiney as shit, and stopping shows or pleading with hecklers like they're rational adults is dumb. Once? Ok. Several times a year? Bad.

2. "I'd see him again in a second." Who suggested otherwise? My point ain't that any of this makes billy or ryan less desireable to see in concert, just that it's a stupid loss that they deal with hecklers the way they do (shutting down). I'd see either in a heartbeat too, which you know.

3. "This kind of shit happens all the time." Uhhhh, ok kinda, but not to the same people over an- fuck I'm not gonna defend the widely-known perception that these guys melt down more often. I'm not making it up, it's true, sad as it is. Jesus. Nobody said they're assholes or bad people. They just got the reputation of being easy targets, and didn't do much to dispell it.

The difference, however, between ourselves and mr Corgan is that we'd feel not the slightest bit of compunction in hopping off-stage for a "setbreak," wherein we'd break both your fucking hips.
