Not much of a departure but there's been some definite progress here. i wish that i could listen to this on my drive to DC tonight instead of the Alkaline Trio/CKY melange that my driver is sure to choose.

this year is a rough one for bands for having to follow up (in my opinion) nearly flawless previous albums. i'm talking about doves, new pornographers, sleater-kinney, elbow, and the constantines. it's unfair for my brain to set such unrealistic expectations. i've heard all of these respective new albums, and while they didn't provide the perfection i was expecting on the first listen, i have no doubt that i will come to love them all.

Shine a Light is one of my favorite albums in the last couple of years. So I'm highly anticipating this.

It's no different now - people trying to outdo ! each other in extremes. There are people who like X, and there are people who say X are wimps; they like Black Flag.

I have a feeling this will be a "grower" for me, but the first listen was ho-hum.

I loved "Shine a Light"
