I assume the Chicago people have heard about this. It's a cool looking building, but to me it doesn't quite fit in chicago...at least looking at the artists rendering.

As a Chicagoan I can say, we do (as a city) have an inferiority complex.
I mean, we know how damn great our city is, but feel overlooked because we are in the Midwest. So I think we have to keep making sure that we ALWAYS have the tallest building in North America, if not the world.

It is a damn cool looking building, but I agree that it would look more appropriate in the NYC skyline – t'would compliment the Empire State and Chrysler buildings very nicely. There's nothing in Chicago right now that looks remotely like that.

Still, as a Chicagoan... I'm all for having the tallest building here!

That guy blatently stole my thesis design.

If he weren't so good, and if I weren't a nobody, I might do something about it.

i'm a fan of the architect but this would work so much better for chicago without the damn spire. the building itself is a little too delicate for the chicago skyline. our architecture has always beem more bold, masculine...the whole broad shoulders thing.

and i'd rather chicago be know for the white sox winning the freaking world series than the tallest building. i have no second city complex about chicago. at all. it rocks in so many ways.

I'm not really sure how I feel about it, but I'm willing to bet it doesn't get built. They have to sell 40% of the condominium units (Which will be the most expensive in Chicago) before they'll break ground. There are too many condo's on the market as is. I think blueprints for the world's largest skyscraper come to chicago about every 2-3 years. The pritzker family was going to build the last one in 2001.

There is nothing not masculine about a skyscraper, ie falic object.
The design is wicked, my man, and Calatrava is a genious among smart people.

bold and masculine...that's pretty acurate, I was going to say traditional, but you nailed it. You're right though, it is too delicate for Chicago.

I'm definitely not qualified to give an opinion, but I guess it's never stopped me before. I think it's unique and it'll draw tourists from all over the world, but it doesn't fit in the chicago skyline very well. Then again, chicago might need a bit of an updating in it's skyline and this could be the door that opens up another architectual renaissance here. It seems to me that general consensus I'm hearing among chicagoians, news channels, and editorials is that it shouldn't be built here.

it's hardly feminine...just delicate. as a building i like it a lot and i love a lot of his work. love it. i think the spire looks like it was tacked on as an afterthought.

and a skyscraper is a phallic symbol but mies van der rohe"s (sp?) buildings on lake shore drive are way more butch than this building.

Personally, I like this building (van der rohe) much better, but it's going to be covered up by the trump monstrosity.

IBM Tower.

Never been a huge Van der Rohe fan.
I see his importance, but for pure aesthetics, I've just never really gotten it.

It's like a geometry class in the form of a building. It's hypnotizing.

Walking toward Colombus Circle yesterday, I looked at a building that was being constructed, and thought to myself, "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if someone made a building that was sort of twisted?"

I guess someone else also thought it would be cool.

Yes, this building would change the feel of the Chicago skyline - but what 2000 foot building wouldn't? I like this design, and I would love to see it built in Chicago. I doubt it will happen, though.

I like buildings that look like buildings, not marital aids.

No, but I've been there many times - it is the closest large city to where I am.

They are but I can't imagine wanting to live in one. It seems like it'd be such a hassle always taking an elevator and what not.

And they're talking $800 a square foot in this building if it ever gets started. Insane!
