So this past Saturday, I participated in a charity ride for diabetes that's held every year called Summit to Surf. Some of you may remember me doubting my abilities to do the route last year, as it was a lot of hill-climbing that I wasn't used to, and it was a pretty long ride (54 miles). Well, I succeeded last year, so this year, I decided to push it a bit further and sign up for the Summit Route, which adds another 12 miles to the ride and approximately another 2000 foot elevation gain. About a week ago, I thought to myself, "What the hell have I done?" But the last 3 weeks were spent doing some grueling local hill-climbs to prep for this, and I'm glad to say it paid off. So anyhow, here's me at Timberline Lodge, having gained about 4600 feet in elevation. I'm proud to say that I didn't stop to rest, go below 5mph uphill, or cry. ;) Anyhow, it was great fun and a great cause... a lot of money was raised for this event, and I was glad to be part of it.

Also, here's the actual route if anyone is interested....

I wish we lived in the same town, so you could distract my wife when she tries to take me on one of her 60-mile Death Marches.

That's really wonderful. I wish I had that sort of motivation to do something like that.

Wow, I've ridden that far before, but no with that kind of altitude change. Even when I was in shape you probably would have found my corpse about midway.

Congratulations, especially for exceeding your own expectations.

Badass, nice work. And you did it without drugs, unlike Lance.

Awesome!

Hey, I rode 2.5 miles home from work today. I'm building up for that Italian trip... (very slowly)
