No, it isn't at all. I would suspect there are probably a number of people here who don't really listen to enough electronic music to even know there are there genres that actually have acronyms.

But, IDM really is a well established genre. I figured it was at least as well known as the term "techno"...I mean, from all the reading I do about music "IDM" is probably used MORE than "techno," even though they aren't exactly the same thing (but all part of the same, larger genre).
