Some kind of History of Soviet Russia..you can write your thesis on "Joseph Stalin, and the use of Rape as a form of Party Discipline Enforcement."

I know I wish these types of things had been available to me.

medieval lit are NOT

detective fiction FUN

aerobics is NOT FUN AT ALL no matter what you think.
I took a class on zen painting that was awesome, but hard as fuck.
same goes for drugs & behavior.

My advice is: Don't get cute with your classes.

If you don't really know what you're getting into then just take the Art 101 class or something. Just because you CAN take a class on Renaissance art instead of basic Art Appreciation doesn't mean you SHOULD take it.

I made this mistake. Most of the students were Art majors and required to take the course but it is open to all students. I thought I would be different and take something more specific. It was brutal. The prof was Italian and insanely difficult to understand. Very detailed and much harder than I anticipated.

Go ahead and get your English, Biologies, and Maths out of the way so you can dick around more your Jr. and Sr. years.

did you already fulfill your math ge? if not, do it. get it out of the way.

if you need to fulfill your humanities ge, take some music class. i took the history of rock- and it served 2 purposes: got that humanities ge out of the way, and it was a subject that interested me. that's my advice for taking ge's- take something that interests you at least somewhat (with the exception of math, english, science).

This is good advice. Throwing in an intro level class in some discipline that you might consider pursuing is also not a bad idea.

If the Art Department offers a Metals class...I highly reccomend something like that...or Art History/Popular Aesthetics.

careful--shit could be difficult.

I had a friend take a Beatles class for kicks and he said it was hard as hell.

best advice has already been given--it's easy to decide what to take your first couple of years--get all that required stuff out of the way if you dont know what you want to do.

Yah that is what all my friends who took the class said.

Still better studying something you like.

agreed...and still wondering how i got a B in this class???

psychology classes were always interesting to me.

also, if your school offers it, forensics is a really cool class (although i think it was an upper lever criminology course at maryland...not intro).

I enjoyed astronomy and a music history class. The latter focused on everything from Hildegard of Bingen to Philip Glass. I even kept the 6-CD compilation that we were required to purchase because it was so interesting.

He's a works for Safeway. Not on the floor, but in the Divisional Headquarters in Lanham as a Loss Prevention Investigator. Company car, company phone, company PDA, company laptop and a decent salary. Basically sets his own hours and is always home by 5:00, which is impressive considering he has one store in MD (Potomac), a handful in DC, and all the rest are in NoVa.

He's okay with it, but keeps looking around. I think he's crazy. He's 28 and he said the next youngest co-worker is 33-34. My thinking says stick it out and enjoy the comforts of being the rising star in the company, then if you want to parlay that somewhere else, do it in 5-7 years or so. It baffles me that he got the job in January 2005, has more money than he can spend (and he's tried, it's funny), yet he still is looking for something else.

Of course, he also is smitten by government jobs, especially federal police, because of the benefits and time off. It doesn't hurt that his mother (public school guidance counselor) has pounded the benefits of being a government employee to him for YEARS.
