it should be noted that the movie that spurned this thread was about a 9 year-old nicaraguan girl that was raped and the contraversry that arose when the Costa Rican (where she was raped) government tried to foce her to carry it to term, even going so far as to openly lie about the risk to her health to the press and try to remove her from her family.

i can't figure out why people get so worked up over this issue. especially since the dudes who are most worked up about it don't tend to mind killing overall.

Not only am I pro-choice....I'm flat out pro-abortion. I think we should promote it and make it readily available and safe. Encourage people to have them. I think we're doing a major disservice to our society by telling that 15-year old who was abused from 3-9 and came from a broken home that she'd be doing the wrong thing by having an abortion.

I have moral issues with it myself, but i'm pro choice i guess. Like others I was brought up in a Catholic household (inc Catholic schooling) but am pretty liberal in my views. I guess my upbringing still plays a part in my decisions though, even if I don't really beleive in it all anymore. I'm also strongly against the death penalty.

There is a girl who works for my department at work who for a better/worse term is retarded. She started working for us before I got there through a public school program that gets the "Developmentally Disabled" jobs. She is normal in all ways except for the fact that she has the intellect of 10-12yr old. She has a history of doing any guy who will have sex with her and openly flaunts herself in her ghetto neighborhood. She got pregnant last year after having sex with one of the arena football players who plays for the team located in the arena I work for. Two months after giving birth, she had her son taken away for being neglectful and slightly abusive. She came back to work after her maternity leave was up so she could get her kid back, yet less than a month afterward she was affraid she was pregnant again and has since been assaulted by another woman for messing with her boyfriend.
I don't believe she has any clue about contraceptives and is doing society a disservice by bringing a child into this world. I personally believe that we should start encouraging people to be sterilized. It justs seems like a vast majority of problems that my sister faces working at Nebraska's HHS Department would be eliminated by women of the welfare class not having children once they were already receiving government assistance.

Usually, yes it is scary, but there are a select few groups who are anti-abortion in any circumstance, which is at least consistent with the whole no murder thing.

I'm pro-death penalty and pro-euthanasia; and pro-choice in that I think abortion is primarily a medical procedure between a woman and her doctor (and hopefully the poor schlupp at least sent along his part if his prescence wasnt required/wanted)

I think the problem is pro-life and pro-choice are not two sides of the same argument, like you said earlier. I consider myself 100% pro-life, but would never want to denythe option for choice from anyone else.
