Haven't heard it yet and wonder if it's prime Sullivan or just workmanlike.

It's quite good. Not their best, but think back -- have they ever done anything even remotely bad? Even Love of Hopeless Causes stands the test of time...

:) Kind of embarrassed to say, but think I might've had these guys confused with Tubeway Army, that old band of Gary Numan. Was New Model Army very popular?

Only with a handful of Yorkshire Socialists and ninnies like me.

"Stupid Questions" was almost a hit. Almost. But that was more than 15 years ago. They had a bunch of singles that almost were hits in Great Britian, but haven't been paid attention to in the States since 1990.

Kind of the British corollary to Midnight Oil.

A louder Fatima Mansions, maybe. The Clash, as influenced by anthemic harder rock instead of punk. Billy Bragg & The Pogues if they had Metallica albums, maybe.

must have for fans: The Ghost Of Cain

(Tubeway Army - also good )

I think "51st State" was there "biggest" song stateside, there was even a video for it.

For a recommendation, go for their Abstract catalogue, I believe the CD of "Vengeance" has their debut single on it as well.

That's a very apt description.

I describe them as protest rock'n'roll. You'd like them, Dave, they're in that same genre as Tonio K.'s first album. Not quite as clever a lyric-writer, but then again, who is?

Not sure if I put any New Model Army on any of my compilations (in fact, I'm pretty sure I didn't), but there's one in the works, but that's a ballad...I may have to put a rocker on one of the upcoming ones...

They have a fan base, it's just relatively small here in the US, but very loyal -- did ya see they finally started touring over here? I finally saw them for the first time last year. Yay!
