Did anyone else pick this up today? I realize this is only my first listen, but so far it's sounding like the best Superchunk-related material since "Indoor Living."

It's sort of along the same lines, but the recording is better, the hooks are bigger, the lyrics are improved, and Mac's voice sounds just right.

i just heard some of this. maybe i'm a knucklehead but i would think that the people who constantly spout about something called "power pop" would totally dig this.

Probably, if they give it a chance...

HUGE Superchunk fan, but Portastatic mostly has left me feeling "meh" in the past. Looks like Mac is using this "Hiatus" to load the Portastatic albums with the full-band stuff...

Me likey...

The "Pilsners" single was my favorite Portastatic thing, until this came along. Haven't re-weighed them recently, though, so my rankings might be a bit suspect...

Nevertheless, both "Pilsners" and his "Josephine" cover absolutely slay...

I'm a huge Portastatic and Superchunk fan. I think this is a good record, for sure, but I liked it when Portastatic was creating more lo-fi songs, at times weird songs, and sounded less Superchunk-y. Live these songs are awesome, though.

i agree, and i liked about half of the second one, slow note from a sinking ship. haven't really dug anything after that though...superchunk-wise either. but this one is hitting just right. you should check it out.

Does anybody know if Superchunk is ever going to come out with a new album? It's been four years and thats a long time for them to go without releasing anything.

According to a Chicago Tribune interview with Mac, there will be a new full-length (not a compilation or another Clambake release) in '06.

I've been working on putting together my 2006 Top 20, and this has a legitimate shot at making it. Very solid!

Does anyone have this track in a YSI-ready format? :)
