some piece of shit moved in on another band board i post on and made the mood acutely uncomfortable. unfortunately the board is unmoderated (but i have the passwords). so after how many physical threats do i have grounds for a ban?
eh, FT?
Made the mood uncomfortably where? Here? Or at your unmoderated board? Are you the board administrator/owner? Have you tried communicating with the person in question outside of the board (eg, PM, email)? How about ignoring the person? Does this person personally know you? Know where you live? If he's making serious threats on your person, you do realize that you can report him to the government authorities.
We've never banned anyone on Obner. However, it doesn't mean that we wouldn't. And I think that I can speak for the other moderators when I say that people are entitled to opinions whether you agree with them or not. How you wish to convey your message determines whether you'll be a welcomed member or not. Most website communities tend to steer to the non-assholes.
This has been a public service from your friendly neighbourhood moderator.
PS -- I take it that "Fuck off, you scabies-infested spawn of a whore" hasn't worked.
no, not here. at the other board. basically goes like this:
1. quiet and sleepy indie rock band board gets mystery posts from boarder who smugly implies he knows members personally, accuses them of selling out, blabiddy blah
2. flaming ensues by regulars
3. new boarder gets fired up, misspells every word in the wiki-verse, name drops like it's going out of style
4. more flaming ensues
5. new boarder threatens to "fuck your shit up" (see above post), and tells band to watch their back on tour. totally earth crisis '94
6. boarder makes it known his identity shall, until further notice, remain a secret
7. board has no ignore option
8. band doesn't moderate and probably wouldn't know how anyway
so basically the dude isn't connecting with the vibe of the board (sarcasm, irony, et al), which isn't a big deal, and the fact that he obviously dislikes the band isn't a big deal, but it's kind of like having a booger on the collective board finger that we can't flick off.
a booger that threatens to kick everyone's ass.
he seriously won't go away and i like m' board.
