my aunt just emailed me and asked me for my christmas list
and....
i can't really come up with one. i can't think of anything other than 'lost: season 1'.

and i KNOW i have to make this a good list because it will be forwarded to my other 2 aunts and my grandma. AND my this aunt also helps my dad shop for me for christmas.

and i'm at a loss.

what are you all asking for for christmas?

i have no idea either.

my mom sent me an email over the weekend asking for some christmas suggestions, but then sent me an email on monday night absolutely lambasting me for the lack of respect that i have for her over the phone. and now she hasn't answered my emails since i replied to that one. so, maybe i don't really need to submit a list to her this year...

Send your aunt my way... I'm sure I could come up with some high dollar items for her to buy me.

ha. no chance. i guess this is a 'good' problem to have.

maybe i won't get lost season 1. i wanted them because i haven't seen any of them but am hooked on season 2. but i guess i can just rent them. i mean, how many times will i watch them?

i asked for the freaks and geeks box last year.....and i haven't watched that as much as i thought i would.

however, my 'stop making sense' dvd has definitely been a joy throughout the year.

I never know. All of the things I want are waaay too pricey to ask for.

I go with the usual requests:

Tower Records gift cert
Amazon gift cert
Barnes & Noble gift cert
(insert clothing store here) gift cert
Blockbuster gift cert

i dont want crap anymore - my birthday is coming up along with christmas and I have no clue. my wife and i usually just go out to dinner rather than buy gifts.

my mom will be something i absolutely don't like - guaranteed.

My Christmas lists are generally just long selections of books, cd's, and dvd's.

My parents and other relatives complain but I can never think of anything else. Anything like clothes or furniture I'd rather buy myself than trust to them. What else is there?

Jesuschrist those things creep me out.

Actually, maybe it's just the people that own them and think of them as friends that creep me out.

Nope. The dolls are creepy too.

Ask them for dinner dates, so you get to see them and not have to pick up the tab.

I have gone from: Asking for specifice things, with links pasted in email
to asking for gift certificates, with links pasted in email
to asking for a charitable donation in my name to specific charity
to asking for a charitable donation in my name to ANY charity
to: not giving a shit what I get, and realizing that another book about the Beatles at least means they THINK they are buying me something that interests me.

Yeah, whenever I delineate (to my family at least) the exact thing I want, I get the "you're SO picky and greedy" response. No, I do the research and I know what I want. There's a difference. Gift certificates, to me, seem very impersonal, unless that's what you've specifically mentioned wanting.

The only thing I can truly think of really wanting this year is a Cuisinart food processor. I wouldn't mind some bike gear/clothing. To me, Christmas is the time for me to give/get the things that under normal circumstances, I probably wouldn't buy, but it sure would be nice to have (i.e. Netflix gift cards, FruitForward wine gifts, etc.).

Do that many orientals need massages?

I think you should ask for precious metals or gemstones.

We must be related, cos this is EXACTLY what happens to me, and I how I feel about the holidays.

Well, you did say I reminded you of the cool big sister you never had... did your dad ever bang a woman named Lucy in the mid 70s? ;)

Luckily, I have a small family, we don't go overboard with presents, and we generally know what everyone is interested in.

I'm against Christmas lists on principle (except maybe for little kids who have grandparents or aunts and uncles that are buying them presents).

For me gifts should just be small things that let other people know you're thinking about them. It shouldn't be some sort of registry.

I'm also against gift cards and/or cash as presents. Of course, this philosophy does mean you'll occasionally get stuff you're totally uninterested in but thems the breaks.

As someone said above, my family usually just does books, CDs, and other small things.

In a lot of ways, you remind me of the cool big sister I DO have, and I'm sure my dad banged a chick named Lucy in the 70s, plus maybe a couple hundred others ;)
