Wire, saw them on their first comeback...The Ideal Copy. Who'd have thought that a band no one ever heard of the fiorst time would re-form so the same no-one's could hear/see them again.

Big Star (in 1994)
Television (in 1993)

Both were among the best shows I have ever seen.

EDIT:
Oh yeah, and I also saw:
Buzzcocks (in 1996) another great show.

Cocteau Twins (3 times in all). I had been a fan of theirs for at least 5 years before I even saw a photograph or read an interview with them. So to see them in the flesh the first time was surreal. I was happy to have the chance to see Dead Can Dance too.

I saw Doug E. Fresh perform "LaDi Dadi" at a secret Prince show in NYC about 7 years back. always one of my old school favorites.

I saw them too...Peru Ubu opened. I was a huge Pixies fan but thought they sucked live.

Mine:

Sex Pistols
Gang of Four
Joe Strummer
Television
Love with Arthur Lee (several times)
Buzzcocks (in the late 80's or maybe 1990 - i think this was their first reunion)

for me, this would go under "bands you saw on a whim and hated every second of." they played the next night and were apparently much better, but i will probably never listen to them again.

I saw John Cale perform at Sunset Junction in LA, and he played "Venus in Furs." I definitely never thought I'd see a founding member of the Velvet Underground perform a VU song.
