I'm not prepared to really compare it to the first one yet. It's been a while since I've listened to that one and have only spun the new one once. My first impression is that its a good one, but perhaps a bit less psychedelic than the first. If you like the first Espers album though, you should like this one too, i'd think.

Edit: I'm not sure if anyone bothers reading this thread...I post it more as a place to keep track for myself but Todd if you're reading you'll be pleased to know that Amoeba was playing Emmitt Rhodes while we shopped.

Hey Billy, what's your take on this record? I bought it when it came out, definitely like a few songs, but other than it being his last release......

It certainly did get some overly kind reviews that year based on Zevon's death.

I like it but probably no more than you do. I'd been curious about it based on the reviews and it only cost me ~$3 given it was an emusic download. The only other Zevon album I own is "Excitable Boy" and obviously its no where in that league.

Any other recommendations from his catalog? I've been meaning to get more for awhile.

I know that some folks around here shy away from comps, but the more recent (and much, much better) Zevon comp. called Genius is as good as it gets for that sort of thing. It covers a pretty broad period of time, doesnt catch everything, but IMHO hits some pretty high notes

I've also got the s/t, Excitable Boy and the Wind; I would like to get more of his mid-period work based on the stuff on Genius....Its just one of those matter of time things. Since Wherehouse shut down, I don't have a good used music shop close by.

I can YSI the Genius compilation if anyone is interested.

See now, I gotta play "Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner"....
