For me, Born to Run is the best rock and roll track ever recorded. And get this: it has ALL the chords in it. That whole album is perfect, and I am salivating to hear it remastered at Christmas. I'd love to see the first two get cleaned-up as well. But I don't know if they're salvageable - they were recorded in a pretty primitive studio on the cheap. It's criminal how thin those records sound. The songs are so good.

There is a great article in one of the mags (Paste, Filter, Im not sure) that gives the history on Born To Run. Fucking fantastic stuff. I salivate every time I hear anything from that disc.

There's a cover story in UNCUT about the "Making of Born to Run." It's great - a nice summary of a few different books about the man and the album.

The live box is pretty stunning, although it is notoriously picked over and overdubbed. I don't really care - great sequencing from first to last to give you a sense of the career. It's worth it just for "Raise Your Hand," his cover of Eddie Floyd. Amazing bandleader.

I love the appreciation of the Live New York set, too. The first time I saw Bruce was on that reunion tour and I couldn't believe what he was doing. I was coming from an indie-rock place where those kind of rock moves could only be pulled off in an ironic, detached way. It was completely earnest and brave. You have to see it to believe it. I threw out the bullshit rock rule book that night.

That really hurts my feelings.

That NYC show slays, I agree. I saw it live on HBO and was blown away by how these 50-odd year old guys just fucking work it on stage. Springsteen absolutely owns the stage.

Okay, so I just finished watching the concert DVD. I'm fucking EXHAUSTED. Didn't keep track of the time, but well over 2 hours, mebbe closer to 3, and just an incredible show. I saw Bruce in '76 a few months after this show was recorded and it did the same thing to me- if there's any doubt about this band's claim to the finest live act in the world, watch this thing straight through.

Agreed, it was daunting watching this through, but well worth it. I'm spoiling myself right now watching this concert, Don't Look Back, The Last Waltz within the space of two weeks. I'm gonna have fish for more suggestions.
