Lions | Mariucci fired
Mon, 28 Nov 2005 09:05:32 -0800

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Detroit Lions have fired head coach Steve Mariucci. It was widely speculated Mariucci would be let go by the team following their embarrassing loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Thanksgiving Day. The team has dropped four of their last five games and Mariucci was 15-28 during his two-plus years with the Lions. He has two more seasons left on his five-year, $25 million contract.

i dont think mariucci was the problem, since he was matt millens first choice. the drafts the last few years have been atrocious, and the free agent signings havent been much better (with dre bly being the notable exception, though they paid too much for him) matt millen and the whole coaching staff need to go.

i agree considering they've been 20-55 under millen, i think the wrong guy was axed.

Speaking with emotion on the NFL Network, Lions Pro Bowl cornerback Dry Bly said most of Detroit's problems stem from one person - the team's quarterback.

"They should have fired guys on this team a long time ago... I feel like there is one guy in particular who I felt like is the cause of this whole thing. That's just how it is," Pressed further on who that one person is, Bly said, "It's not hard to figure out. The quarterback here has been bad. He hasn't gotten the job done since I got here. Y'all just see Sundays, but I've been a part of this every day for three years... practices. You see how the guys practice and the practices have been bad... I really don't believe coach would have gotten fired if Jeff
(Garcia) didn't get hurt." Nov. 28 - 3:24 pm et

It's the fucking Lions. You can't blame a coach or Harrington.

And what was with that rainbow pass that Garcia had intercepted on Thursday? And then, how in god's name did they find that it had been tipped, despite the fact he threw it 50 feet in the air with no one around him?

Don't look now but they're 6-5 despite all of the problems they've had and are in the hunt for a wild card.

Players seem to want to play for him.

Tice will be the Wayne Fonts of the 00s before its all over.

(Always on the hot seat, always has juuuust enough problems and does juuuuust well enough to avoid getting canned for something like 72 straight seasons.

don't draft qb's from Oregon - product of the program. harrington, akili smith, bill musgrave, danny o'neill, it goes on and on. all the duck qb's over the years have put up huge numbers.

Fear of a beatdown by ownership.

Sorry, Monte, I meant Benson is next.

Mike Singletary, assistant head coach and linebackers coach of the San Francisco 49ers, is your favorite to be the next Lions head coach.

interesting. he's been slooowly working his way up from BAL LB coach. from the little i've read, people seem to think he'd be a good HC.
