If you want to change Fennesz to Jay-Z, that would be fine too.

Lots of great albums. I picked Strokes, but that's before I realized that Vespertine was on the list and that Things We Lost In the Fire came out too.

List!

1. Low - Things We Lost in the Fire
2. The Strokes - Is This It
3. Bjork - Vespertine
4. Radiohead - Amnesiac
5. White Stripes - White Blood Cells
6. Daft Punk - Discovery
7. Liars - They Struck Us In A Trench....
8. My Morning Jacket - It Still Moves
9. Rufus Wainwright - Poses

i definitely agree that Low probably deserves a spot more than bjork, mmj or bjork.

I think if you held voting MVP style where people vote 1st and 2nd runners up also MMJ would kick Low's ass in voting. That's just my guess though. I also thought Bjork was more popular than Low but I'm not really a fan of either so what do I know.

Again, I didn't mean to shit on the parade. This is an great addition to the board and I think Spade has done an awesome job at the yeoman's task of seeing it through each day.

Just felt like piping up and tossing on my $.02.

4 votes taken from other and given to Low, for two guns, drinky, vincent and dead alive.

EDIT: and to echo others, i think spade's doing a great job with the choices, and it was by no means obvious that low would have so many more votes than bjork.

Yeah, but it's just a matter of data collection. There are more people who really really love "things we lost" than people who care as much about mmj. But there are probably fewer people who would put low on a top 10 than mmj because i think mmj has more mass appeal.

Thanks Haq.
Glad someone else can see past the unfair "emo" tag they got stuck with. That record's first five tracks could fuel a space shuttle.

I voted for Fugazi, though. (But we can leave things how they are.)

edit: you were correct to move my vote to Low, though.

Whoops. Well I'm going to erase one of your votes. Should it be Fugazi?

Fixed. I'm not bothering with Jay-Z since no one seems to like it enough to vote for it anyway.

One of these, but I'm not sure which:

Katatonia, Last Fair Deal Gone Down
Amorphis, A Fine Day To Exit
Opeth, Blackwater Park
The Faint, Danse Macabre
Lamb, What Sound

Nothing else is leaping out at me -- I could be wrong about that, though.

EDIT:

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's Wiser by Halou.

lol. Haq could you do me one more favor with regard to yesterday's poll? NY Dolls should've been on there, and that personal favorite King Crimson record should not have been. NYD got 7 votes.

We're essentially saying the same thing. That was my way of saying it was far from obvious to someone whose not a big Low fan that Low might get more votes. Although I'm really surprised MMJ hasn't done better.

And I'll throw another echo out there that SK is doing a great job with this. If he misses a few that would have done well so what. I don't know why some people seem so reluctant to just use the "other" option. That's what its there for.

thanks again for the kudos, guys, you are all too kind. It does some time to get these things together, and it's in their nature not to be perfect, but the objective is to get us thinking about a year of music and I'd say we definitely acheived that.

One thing I want to do when all the polls are done is accrue all the winners, significant seconds and in rare cases significant thirds and have everyone rank the best of the best. I think it would be interesting to see how that all shakes out. I expect to have a list of about 50. The criteria for second and thirds is 10+ votes or within one of the winner. In many years there is a clear cut winner, but in a handful there are two or possibly even three worthy candidates. it's not really a listmania, but I'm interested to see which of the yearly winners are the most popular among the board.

Just heard this for the first time a couple weeks ago, courtesy of Bloor. It is very, very good. I wish it hadn't taken me this long to hear it, but I'm glad I did. It would be a top 2001 release for me as well.

Yeah I recognize that it coming out the same year as Southern Rock Opera would hurt its chances as there's likely a big overlap in fans. I'm surprised that folks that really like At Dawn would be inclined to be big strokes fans though.

I dunno, music is music. I mean I dont necessarily see an "overlap" in MMJ and DBT fans---other than both bands being from the South.

Not clear why the two should be mutally exclusive either.

I didn't necessarily mean that I'd expect MMJ fans would dislike the strokes, just that they wouldn't be more inclined to like the strokes than anyone else would. Where I thought DBT and MMJ shared fanbases even if its based on geography as much as anything.

I also didn't realize that people still loved Is this It? as much as they apparently do. I thought their fanbase was wider than it was deep although I guess I'm just projecting my own feelings (and those of non-board friends) towards the Strokes there.
