I was just posting the WC '06 thread, but yours will do.

The US has been selected to join Group E along with Italy, Angola, Czech Rep. I think it's feasible the US taking the #2 spot and advancing to the Quarters. I hope the Yanks can upset Italy's Blues much like Portugal in 2002.

Rankings mean fuck-all. There is no way we should be ranked in the Top 15, honestly. Head-to-head, we couldn't take out many of the Euro teams. Put us in tournament play and it's a whole different story - much like the NCAA tourney. I'd say Group B looks pretty fierce (Eng, Sweden, Paraguay, T&T) as well as Group C (Argentina, Holland, Serbia & Mont., Ivory Coast). The US has a legitimate chance.

I don't think they earned an automatic bid after winning the Euros a few years back. They must've stunk it up during qualifiers - I don't follow the hairier teams.

I like us against Italy... at worst 0-0. Ghana could be a barnburner, but we're a better offensive team than in '02... it's the Czechs I'm worried about. Have to try and tie and can't lose by more than 1 goal.

That's very optimistic, but I'll agree with you. The Czechs scored the most goals (and possibly broke records) during Euro qualifiers, so yeah, these guys are going to be tough.

Apoligise if i sound pompous, but i love the way americans speak about football. Rankings mean fuck all! Better offensive team means fuck all.

I don't get the have to try and tie and cant lose by mor ethan one goal!

Again apoligise for sounding cocky but teams dont go out to lose by more than one goal.

Italy no chance, Ghana, fancy you guys to nick a win. Czech no chance.

Eat my words!

I'm being realistic. Do I expect the US to go for 9 pts? Um, no. It often comes down to aggregate scoring. You can't afford to get pummled.

What the US has going for them is conditioning... it got us to the quarters in '02 and we're probably still the best conditioned team. Italy can't score... never could. 1 goal should be enough. Shit, we beat Portugal... why not Italy?

Oh shit, i am gonna be hated.

You were taking the piss?

If not i apoligise, and you hate me.

These guys are pro's, conditioning(glad i could copy from your quote, spellings bad) does not come into it. It's Germany not high altitude Tibet.

You were joking?

I agree ratings are crap, but the US group is very, very tough. I'd favor the US advancing out of all but maybe 2-3 groups. Unfortunately, the group we're in is one of them. Italy's a traditional power that always has to be respected, the Czech's are probably one of the top 2 or 3 teams to not be seeded and all the African teams can be dangerous on their day. I'd say along with group C, it may be the toughest group this time around. At least one quality team will go home.

But, hey, we've still got a shot. We've taken a scalp or two over the
years, unfortuantely, we've usually had better luck beating good South American teams than European ones.

England should walk through their group, by the way.

It's almost as adorable as having a Brit join in our college bball banter! Welcome! We're no powerhouse when it comes to soccer, so sure, a few losses are expected. But every once in a while, we'll sneak in a win versus a Portugal, a Mexico or even an English squad (90s), second team or not. It's tough rooting on a weak team, but the "W's" are huge and the losses not so tough to deal with. We always can count on the Olympics to dominate sport.

Eddie 'The Eagle' flying in Torino? What was the last event England won at anything? Scurvey and tooth decay are not events, just so you know.

LOL. Yeah i know shit about basketball!

Dont get me wrong, USA have a great side. You dont get to the world cup if not. Fuck england lost to Northern Ireland & Australia recently. No chance of winning world cup. Brazil/Italy/Spain have that. Just giving predictions!

Eddie the eagle...LOL....what a legend.

We out worked Portugal, and for the most part, S. Korea on their turf. Definitely out worked Mexico. Most every article on the USA's run listed superior conditioning as the #1 reason they advanced so far... and the #1 reason the rest of the world hates to watch our games.
