Funnily enough just this week there was the chance that I could have become one of the music writers on a local newspaper (probably just writing reviews) and I was invited to a 'production meeting' and I didn't go, cos, you know, it was a meeting full of strange people I've never even met.

It was also apparent that they wanted to give me CD's to review rather than let me pick them which I wasn't entirely happy with....

That is me to a T, 100%.

This is one of my friends, also to a T. I like to recite her morning routine whenever I can: wakes up, grabs phone, calls mom, who's busy, calls dad, who's busy, calls grandma, who's busy, calls a friend, who's busy, calls another friend, who's busy. Calls me, I'm not busy, but two minutes into the call, she has to go because her mom just called her back. Five minutes later she calls back, then within a minute or two she gets another call from her dad, whom she tried to call again in between talking to her mom and calling me back. This will go on through the list of people she's called, I won't bother to list it out. Not only have I been on the receiving end of this, I've also witnessed it in person. It's fascinating, but tiring to watch. Suffice it to say that I can handle her in small doses - she's constantly on, constantly looking for attention from anyone who will give it to her, so after a short while I'm simply burned out.

That's me. That's why I post so much, too I guess. I like to talk...SHIT.

And I am good at public speaking, but that don't mean its easy. And that has nothing to do with being a shut in or not.

When I did that wedding this summer, I was visibly shaking after the ceremony and wasn't 'normal' again, like to hold a conversation until after like 3 drinks.

Yeah, you do have an open talking-on-the-cell-phone addiction.

I used to as well but I've cut it down (from upwards of 1500 minutes/month to less than 500);

Edit: And your role as public speaker/minister was funny. NOT COMFORTABLE! And, a mouth breather......

Surprisingly, I have cut down a lot on the phone, but driving is boring ;)

And fuck you, I have a picture of you telling me I did a good job, so no reneging now. THEM.

Interesting and surprising thread.

I think I went through a phase in my mid-twenties where I was a bit anxious around strangers. Weird. I don't even think about it now.

Having said that, I spent a lot of time alone - and was maybe difficult to get to know - and actually enjoyed it, and in a way that is really valuable to me.

I know a lot of people who can't stand being alone. What's the opposite of social anxiety disorder?

Also me. I'm apparently a fantastic public speaker as I was chosen to lead off the annual conference I attend each year, but I fucking hate doing it. Outside I'm confident and commanding, inside I'm a goddamn wreck. The second I'm finished, I'm heading to the pub (or hotel room) for some juice to bring me to equilibrium.

I always thought it was funny to accuse all of you of having no social lives, but I guess it's true.

If we had social lives, we wouldn't be here.

Doesn't that apply to most of you married types? ;)

I go out way too much.

I'm too social to be shy these days. Of course, my friends who didn't know me in the early years laugh when I tell them I used to be shy.

YOU shy?? haha, that's like saying i'm quiet. ;)

i find it odd how many people on here have social anxiety. i, too, go out way too much to be an introvert. i find it rare when i become shy, but once in awhile, it does happen. i think it also developed from where i used to (and now) work, you can't have social anxiety. that would be just too weird.
