I used to try to keep a mental playlist of sorts going when I first started, mostly trying to think of good builds and transitions. After a while, I just dispensed with all that and went with my own feel of what I wanted to play.

And then, suddenly I started really hating DJ'ing. I'm just not that into it as it turns out. I imagine it'd be different if I was playing more danceable music again, hip hop and the like, but mixing Pavement into a GBV song...I dunno, kinda boring.

I've only dj'ed parties at my house and one time at a faux prom. I usually just play mostly punk, hip hop, 80's and some pop stuff. If someone asks for something I'll usually put it on within a few songs if I have it. I always hated when I requested a song and it never got played or I had to wait 2 hours to hear it.

I was kind of nervous about dj'ing the prom because at my house it was just my friends and it really didn't matter that much what I played but the prom was my friend and a shitload of people I didn't know. It went pretty good I guess. I really wasn't paying attention to the dancefloor but could just hear the crowd kind of roaring whenever certain songs came up i.e. wrecks n effect rumpshaker.

I'd like to do a dj night somewhere but I really don't have portable equipment and wouldn't know where to start.

preface: I'm starting what will hopefully become a regular DJ night in Nashville featuring music that many people on this board would like to listen to if they walked into a club or bar.

King Crimson.

For sounds I wanna hear in a club or bar, King Krimson ranks just under the cries of dying children.

Some will say this should go into the "Street Team" section, but....

It starts Thursday night and will hopefully become a regular event. Add yourself as my friend on Myspace if ya want.
