But yeah, take away some of the production and guys like George Strait and Brad Paisely would sound alot better to these ears because I think there's good stuff there.

George Strait is fucking awesome.

There is a Brad Paisley Boulevard in his hometown of Glendale, West Virginia.

That short one in the Dixie Chicks looks kind of like the retarded tiger.

The bar is pretty low in modern country music. That whole scene is so bizarre and robotic that it gives me the willies. Anybody heard Robbie Fulks do his impression of a mainstream country hit? Hilarious.

but they have some pretty sharp chops, too

Most pro country musicians are amazingly talented players. Ironically, they are doomed to deliver dogshit to morons for a career.

He also mocks the Power Pop scene in "Fountains Of Wayne Hotline"
Pretty dead-on.
And pretty hillarious.

And I like FOW. Just goes to show that you can make fun of any genre. They all have their clichés and conventions.

Totally. Afterall, top 40 country guys are playing with the same traditions that made bands like Uncle Tupelo great. It's just the spotless production, the treacly nature of the lyrics, the fear of any deviation, the creepy knee-jerk patriotism, the auto-tuned vox, the utter predictability of the songs' dynamics that makes a good chunk of it unlistenable - Kenny Chesney, that ape with the godawful pro-war anthem, Faith Hill. You know the drill.

And why can't any of these guys write anything in a minor key?
