it was announced recently that their rebooked show will be without her. i can't imagine it'll be as good as at least 1/3 of its best songs are sung by her, and the rest she accompanies by harmonizing.

anyone else see them perform this way?

I have - and the show was still quite good - they have another woman, Katheryn Calder(I believe it is AC Newman's niece or something like that) fills in with Neko's vocals, so there are still harmonies and female solos. She does quite a good job, I'm not going to lie to you though, she doesnt' sound exactly like Neko so it wasn't QUITE the same for me....but still was a good show.

I've heard that Carl Newman's _________(cousin? niece?) is a fucking dead ringer and that it doesn't hurt shit at all unless you get your jollies off by staring at Neko.

And I'd get used to that BTW. I'd be willing to bet that Neko is just about done in that band. Sucks.

I'd be fucking pissed if I had tickets for that show.

That'd be like going to see Journey and they brought out the *NEW* Steve out instead.

I had no problems with the niece. I've never seen Neko live, though, so maybe I just didn't know what I was missing out on.

They didn't when I saw them on Saturday, but Katheryn did a great job as a replacement. She sings just about as well as Neko and she's cute too. I recommend everyone check out her regular gig, Immaculate Machine.

yeah, that's one. new pornographers are also making up shows before the b&s tour that were postponed from last year after one of them had an appendectomy.

oh, and you'll have some company at that riverside show. the show here sold out very quickly, so i know of at least 3 chicago obners that are headed north.


i don't think it's the same girl. whoever was singing back-up for ac newman last summer was horrendous. i've heard good things about their current neko substitute. and, unfortunately, i do believe the chance to see the "complete" new pornographers was last fall when even dan bejar was touring with them.

Forgot where I read it, but the New Pornographers almost recorded Twin Cinema without her because she wouldn't commit. They threw down the gauntlet and said this is the week in the studio when we record the ablum and show up if you can... she did.

I agree with the above tho, ...even if the New Pornographers go forward with future albums, it will probably be Neko-less other than a guest appearance.

It was great to see them all togetherm although bejar only came out for four songs and was drunk for two of them. Calder does a very good job, but she is only like 19 and cant touch neko on the hotness scale. Also, Neko's voice is unmistakable enough that you would never not know that she isnt there,
