Hey guys - so sorry that I couldn't meet up with y'all. As I expected, this was mostly a family and girlfriend trip - my first time meeting her mother, etc. and seeing where Lady KPH grew up. My time in Austin consisted of a 24-hour mad drive around all the parts of town Lady KPH knew and areas I used to spend time in when I was a Texan. A bit of time on s. congress, that great meal at Chuhy's, and we saw an AWESEOME xmas lights thing on 37th street. Man, if that shit's still up, go check it out!
I don't quite know what to make of Dallas (concrete jungle!), but it has its alright points. I think. I really missed the dominant latino influence that characterizes a great deal of the spirit and image of San Antonio, but whateves -- I'm a confirmed New Englander these days. We spent some time hanging out in Deep Ellum at that spot's Cafe Brazil. This morning, we had breakfast at a great place in the "gay" part of town called Lucky's. Excellent food and a great waitstaff - Lady KPH used to work there a few moons back, so maybe that colored my appreciation of things. But mostly we were at the family house.
As for Dallas location: we were in Richardson and "the Village" as I understand it's called. "The Village" bummed me the fuck out. I can't imagine living in such a place. Walked around most of White Rock Lake on X-Mas Day, which was pretty nice. In Austin, we stayed at her sister's place in some student apartment complex east of 35. It was about as exciting as the HEB across the street.
In short, I miss Texas, but definitely belong where I be at these days.
Anyhow, so Happy Xmas and stuff.
-Kev.
