I couldn't find this on Obner anywhere. Should make the Bears a more solid offensive team next year. In case you Bears fans hadn't heard....

Griese agrees to five-year deal with Bears
March 21, 2006

CHICAGO (AP) -- Brian Griese agreed to a five-year deal with the Chicago Bears on Tuesday, adding depth at quarterback and a potential challenger to starter Rex Grossman.

"I don't think there's any question he's going into the position to compete for the job," Griese's agent Ralph Cindrich said. "That was made clear."

The 31-year-old Griese completed 112-of-174 passes for 1,136 yards and led Tampa Bay to a 5-1 start last year before a season-ending knee injury. The Buccaneers decided to waive him this month rather than pay a $2.6 million roster bonus.

Griese has passed for 16,344 yards and 103 touchdowns in eight seasons with Denver, Miami and Tampa Bay.

Cindrich said Griese passed physicals with the Bears, Cincinnati and Tampa Bay, and "he'll be ready to go" in time for minicamp. Cindrich, who would not reveal the financial terms of the deal, said the contract will likely be signed on Wednesday.

The Bears have said they are committed to Grossman as their starter, but Griese has started 72 of 75 games in his career.

Cindrich said the Bears made no promises

After tearing the ACL in his right knee early in the 2004 season, Grossman broke his left ankle in the preseason and missed the first 13 games. Chad Hutchinson flopped, and rookie Kyle Orton began the season as the starting quarterback.

Behind a defense that was ranked No. 1 for much of the season, a strong offensive line and effective running game, the Bears went 11-5 and reached the playoffs for the first time since 2001.

Grossman's numbers -- 20-of-39 passing for 259 yards in two games -- weren't overwhelming, but the passing game opened up when he returned.

Look for that Defense to be pretty jail.

Wonder how TO will fair with the 'Boys?

He'll have a huge season, but the only chance we have of making the playoffs is overhauling that sieve of an OL. Cutting that overrated fatass Larry Allen yesterday was a step in the right direction.

Ravens were looking at Griese. I wish they'd have picked him up and benched Boller.

Yeah, are they keeping Joey and Key?

When is Dave Meggett gonna show up in the backfield?

This team still feels lost and stopgap/without a masterplan, and that annoys the shit out of me.

I grew up hating the Cowboys but they now have two of my favorite Tigers on D. Bradie James and Marcus Spears. So I kinda pull for them.

Keyshawn is gone, but he did well while with them, so I wish him well. Julius took a step back last year, but I really liked what I saw from Marion Floyd The Barber III, so they have the makings of a bad-ass RB rotation. If they can solidify the OL (they signed a guy from the Lions who's supposedly pretty good, and they've still got Marco Polo Rivera, too), they'll win the division. If not, they're finishing third. Best division in the NFL by a country mile. The Eagles are a lock to bring up the rear this year. It's a three-way dogfight between DAL, WAS and NYG.

Nope. Keyshawn is already out the door. Potential team includes the Giants.

Is the Key thing a parcells or Key decision?
Wouldn't it help to have him as a under guy, or is there just not enough ball to go around with those 2.

And WTF do we have in the can for Bledsoe's eventual broken spine/coccyx?

More of a Jerry decision. Not enough $$$ to go around.

The ghost of Richie Cunningham will continue to haunt Dallas kickers.

Richie Cunningham was actually a pretty solid kicker. MUCH better than Opie Taylor! If there's any ghost to haunt them, it will be Jose Cortez, although you've got to love any kicker with enough balls to shove one of his own OLs.

FT, You guys in the NFC East can enjoy beating each other up all year, and then when you get to the playoffs the Seahawks will enjoy beating your division again because we warmed up with our division.

The Seahawks D got a lot better the other day with the signing of Julian Peterson. And while our offensive line took a little bit of a shot with the departure of Steve Hutchinson we are actually pretty deep on the line. There is actually speculation of us trying to pick up Larry Allen though since the Cowboys cut him the other day to avoid paying him a roster bonus - needless to say I'd be ALL for that :)

Dude, don't let his recent Pro Bowl appearances fool you. He hasn't been worth a shit for at least five years. Holmgren and Co. would be well advised to look elsewhere for OL help.

Well, the Pro-Bowl always has been like an automatic bid for some former members so this isnt' suprising - and Holmgren, Ruskell and company obviously would put a lot more research into this sort of acquisition than I do ;) The only reason I was intrigued is because Allen was the One Guard all of last season who kind of neutralized Lofa Tatupu when the Seahawks played the Cowboys....we'll see how things play out....really we are deep enough on the line that we might not need to pick anybody up....so who know.....

Kind of funny how in Free Agency one team's trash is another team's treasure.
