Normally I give this magazine very little credit. However, besides having the Yeahs on the cover, this one's got features on Daniel Johnston, The Concretes, The M's and Jenny Lewis tackling "Music That Changed My Life".

Her choices?

NWA, Too Short, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Beastie Boys, Black Sheep, Souls Of Mischief, Freestyle Fellowship

I can't think of anything from any Rilo Kiley disc or her solo album that would have led you to think this.

Sounds like irono-contrarian hipsterism will still get you somewhere in indie-rock.

My dad's school was selling magazine subscriptions cheap. Since he's on staff, he got a further discount. So a one-year subscription came to little more than a buck an issue.

LOL. I subscribe to the damn thing. Though, at $9.95 a year, (seriously, its like 83 cents a month or three cents a day) its worth it to have THE Spin 20 (still fucking hi-larious after all these years) and Klosterman. Don't be such a hipster.

I read SPIN too. I find it entertaining and practically every other music magazine around here retails for around $10-12.

That's what saves it from being a Jewel album.

I gave up on Spin a few years ago. This is encouraging. Wonder if it's just a one-issue fluke or a trend?

fair enough, and i agree. there are some issues that i find some interesting stuff in. but an issue with Daniel Johnston, The Concretes, The M's and Jenny Lewis is hardly worthwhile.

Yeah, it's subjective for sure. I personally don't find those aforementioned artists a 'must read', but i'll probably end up grabbing it anyways. There's usually enough in there to keep me occupied for a little while.

I can't think of anything from any Rilo Kiley disc or her solo album that would have led you to think this.

Get ready to lose half your value in the mag, then, as CK is leaving along w/ the recently sacked editor.

I snag all the decent ones from work after the Director of Operations finishes reading them, just like I do some of the RS issues and all the Pollstar's with decent covers on them.

I can't stand Spin. It's worse than Rolling Stone.
