I don't think I'm ready for this yet. It seems to require patience.

It has its moments. But the pug still hates it.

Apparently they based the sound of the album on Crosby's If Only I Could Remember My Name, which was cool to hear, but my main problem with the album is that it's so, SO muffled (I don't remember the Crosby album sounding like this). The live versions really brought the songs to life (which is basically what most critics said as well), yes, but I wish the album had some trace of treble. The stupid thing is that, even after having this problem with the sound quality of A Ghost Is Born, I bought the O'Rourke-produced Beth Orton album and had the same problem. Bastard.

Maybe his studio monitors have uber-tweeters.

Pudding's got it right. Good songs, but I can't stand the production. I have never made a Wilco playlist/mix, but that has to be the craziest sounding thing with the super-brightness of Summerteeth and the twelve shades of brown from Ghost.

They play these songs so much better now, too.

Why not record it again with the full-on Wilco mark-whatever? That would be OUTRAGEOUS!

I like it.

Just the mention of this album makes me want to listen to Hummingbird on repeat.

Do you people listen with swimming plugs in or something? This album is beautifully recorded and mixed. It's extremely dynamic, which is the way music should be. I think too many of you are used to the "louder Louder LOUDER" mindset of today's producers. It doesn't have the amazing ear-candy quotient that YHF has, but it has something that seems so difficult to capture - that "you're in the room with the band" feeling. Put on some good headphones and really listen. It's beautiful and very warm sounding.

And Summerteeth? Are you kidding? It's a great album, but it desperately needs re-mixing to bring those highs back into reality. That thing's verging on harsh, which is a real shame because it makes listening to that great bunch of songs very tiring.

but the real question here is: can you sit through all of Less Than You Think at high volume on a good stereo?

yeah that was all very well put.

i can't see any reason to dislike a ghost is born. excellent excellent songs, i love the production. saying that it has that "you're in the room with the band" feeling is spot on. especially on "at least that's what you said" when it all kicks in one the vocals end. listen to that on high volume with headphones and tell me you don't like this album. impossible.

even if you don't dig on spiders, company in my back, handshake drugs, theologians, the whole fucking album is incredible. as someone else put it in another thread, i still suck at the wilco teet.

For me, Being There is that in-the-room album. That's the "warm" one.

I was just about to give up on Tweedy until I heard this new Loose Fur album. It is GREAT!

I've listened to it on occasion, and I think it's amazing for the reason that Tweedy really nailed, with sound, the way a migraine feels to me. If that was his intention, I don't know, but the first time I heard it, that's exactly what impression I was left with.
