www.morningwoodrocks.com

anyone check these guys and girl out?

From other friends at SXSW, they apparently slay.

I'm thinking about checking out their show at The Metro on 4/20.

Then again, Jamie Lidell is playing Empty Bottle that night, and I'm more inclined to go that.

Their single is pretty fucking catchy though.

Then again, maybe not. The song is already old, and nothing else they've got is nearly as catchy.

Oh god, truly one of the worst bands I've been forced to experience in the past year. I cannot tell you how much I hate them. And their album? A hyphenated word for you -- over-produced.

I've gotta give credit where credit is due, though. Chantal's (not real name) band is fuckin' tight -- she's the one who's the problem and should seriously get rid of her.

For some reason, I thought this band had some connection to Cibo Matto, but looking them up on AMG, I see no such connection.

Who's Jamie Lidell?

There used to be a member of Cibo Matto in this crappy band, so you are correct.

Looks like they've got Cibo Matto's old drummer.

Just watched the video and noticed the one dude dressed up like Devastatin' Dave, the turntable slave.

I don't know what to make of that.

I don't share Tania's hatred for them, but then I'm not able to get to shows hardly ever. I think they're enjoyable, if purposefully dumb.

I had no idea you were capable of hate, especially such fervent hate.

I contacted Lidell's booking agent about his upcoming Chicago show via email and he told me Jamie won't be with a backing band, which means it's just him pretending he's by himself in a studio messing around. Our man Z can attest, skip this because for most of the night you'll be bored. We caught him at the MCA in the spring and walked out very disappointed. Lame. "Multiply" is brilliant btw.

I'd like to hear "Jetsetter" live. Why does Morningwood suck live, Puma? I could see it being high energy, but I've only heard the two singles.

I saw Jamie Lidell in NYC last year w/o a backing band and he was super fun to watch. I'm going to see him again next month.

Because what you hear recorded and what you hear live are two different sounds.

she's not a great singer, but godDAMN is she hot in that "jetsetter" video.

I think they're becoming a guilty pleasure of mine, though. I'm a sucker for spelling words in songs and the second single where she's singing, "m-o-m-o-r-m-o-r-n-i-n-g..." or whatever it is really gets to me in a good way. (though probably not enough for me to throw money down for a concert ticket or album)

she looks like the bassist from the donnas but less talented and more desperate for attention.

i elaborated on this in the other morningwood thread. if i talk about it again, it will make me very angry about how much i despise this band. :D

They remind me a little of The Darling Buds, which is a good thing, but their singer is no Andrea Lewis.

I decided I didn't like them based soley on their bandname. It sounds like its trying to be "deep" but in a very superficial way. (And what the f*ck is "Morning wood" anyway?... the remnans of certain kinds of boy-dreams?)

Looked at the band pics and nearly threw up.

Haven't heard the music yet... but everyone else's posts here seem to confirm my record-store-clerk-extra-sensory-perception (read:superficial judgement).

Done and done.

haha,

Quote of the day.

And that's one sweet Clara Rockmore/ Theremin avatar.

(by the way, why can't i get my own effing avatar to appear??
It's only 120x96 pxs and I've tried uploading it all three ways.
Is there some sort of trick to this, or is it just because i'm a rookie?)
