I am going to the Elliott Smith tribute show at the Duke Coffeehouse on the 15th and I was curious about where I should stay. I've been to Chapel Hill and Raleigh on several occassions and through Durham but never stayed in Durham proper. To be honest, I liked Raleigh and Chapel Hill much better but am wondering what it is like over near Duke University. Which area would a local recommend I should book a hotel?

Thanks in advance.

durham does not have a lot of nice options, to be honest. i would stay at some hotel in Chapel Hill or near the airport. Chapel Hill is about 15-20 minutes from Duke, the airport/RTP hotels are around 20-25 minutes from Duke.

Yea, I'd stay in Chapel Hill, since its 15 minutes to Duke rather than 30 minutes from Raleigh to Duke. There are some hotels right at the exit for 15-501 exit (Exit 73 off I40) that I'd look at. Then I think you could take 15-501 right into Duke from there.

just take the fayettville road exit off of 40 and head east for about 2 miles. just sleep in your car right around there.

I have friends at a house right off E. Campus at 610 N. Buchanan that you can crash with.

Just knock on the door, they'll let you in.
