Someone please post a song that I might know. I don't own anything of theirs and can't for the life of me remember what they sound like.

Thank you!

I'm sure somebody's gonna scoff at this, but to me they always sounded kinda like Morrissey fronting a pop/punk band.

Other than that, I got nothing.

They're performing here soon and am wondering if I should buy a ticket.

Thanks, Charlie!

no that is pretty accurate. So in other words they sound a bit like Smiths "Hatful of Hollow". Not saying the songwriting is as good though, cause it isn't.

Yeah, a pop-punk version of the Smiths is a pretty accurate description.

So, lemme get this straight...they sound like a pop punk version of The Smiths?

It's mainly the singer's voice, it's got a lot of the same qualities as Moz.

That seems accurate.

Maybe I should have said that their voices are deep and sonorous, much like a bassett hound actually.

Here's the singly track off of Destination Failure ("No More Smiles"):

...and here's a track from the same album on which the singer both sounds like and pays homage to Morrissey ("You Spoke to Me"):

Except for the few songs where they sound like a punk pop version of The Smiths.

I still listen quite frequently to both Smoking Popes albums and think the pop/punk Morrissey comparison is fair....the only time I ever saw them live was a BIG disappointment though - it was at a really small club in Portland and I'm pretty sure that the lead singer was complely drunk - couldn't keep a rhythm with the band and kept coming in early and late with the band...was a real disappointment because I liked them a lot at the time..

On the bright side "Static Prevails"-era Jimmy Eat World openned the show and were phenominal....

[badhost]I wish I'd remembered this thread yesterday. I have every Smoking Popes cd. I should have played one. I also didn't think to throw Liquid Soul in the mix. :([/badhost]

Hey Billy, what did you do the first time you hear the cover of "Pure Imagination" on the Destination Failure CD........I literally laughed out loud - needless to say it brought a huge smile to my face :)
