now, how about those college loans?

I just paid off our credit cards this month too.
Now to pay back my parents for the loan for the house, and my student loan, and my brother for his loan, and toyota for their gracious car loan, and the mortgage loan, and then...BABY, we are clean debt free.

i'd hate to know how much I have paid those bastards since I've had the card. the only reason that I opened the account back then was to score a free t-shirt that ultimately was too big and I never wore. that's an expensive t-shirt.

I do have a student loan left, but really, even though the balance of that is about double of what I just paid off for the credit card, i'm not worried about it at all for 2 reasons: 1) the balance will never increase, and 2) the balance of this can just get tacked on the back end of the cost of buying a place, whenever that happens. but yeah, strangely enough I'm not concerned w/ the student loan at all.

We just got done paying off one of my gf's credit cards that had a balance of almost 9 GER. All of which was around before I came into the picture.

But whatever, we both are glad to be rid of it. And credit card debt in general.

That is why I never had a credit card until recently. Nothing but trouble.

i paid off one, have a couple more to go. it will feel nice. my undergrad loans should be paid off in a few months.

of course...in a year my law school loans will kick in at a rate of 600 or so per month.

i think you have to have at least one card handy for emergencies, buying online, etc. i was just faced with a fat balance stemming from college that I was just trying to get out of. I can handle paying off a hundred bucks here and there, not thousands + interest that goes along w/ it.

that's a great feeling. i had credit card debt for the last five years or so and i paid it all off about a month ago. it sucks how they market cards to college kids.

I charge everything I can on our card.
I pay it off every month to not incure any finance charges. This scores me a check for 1% of my purchases (5% on gas and groceries). I ge it from them whenever I summon it.
Right now they owe ME like $260 for the past year and a half. The tables have been turned. w00t!

My debt, that is. My wife and I paid off one that was over 15 GR a couple of years ago when we sold our house. Now, after a few Christmases, building a new house and the worst of all IMPULSE BUYS, it's back up to around 9. :bitchslap:

I got my student loan in today and it didn't even cover my bank account overdraft.

My next one isn't until September. Eeeek.

Rolled the Stafford loan into the mortgage a couple years ago, since all the mortgage is deductible, and only a portion of the stud loans are deductible.

Structured and secured debt is a good thing to have--student loans, mortgages, auto loans.

Consumer debt sucks ass, except for the zero percent financing deals you get on furniture, big ticket electronics, and appliances.

That's what I do, too. It's just way more convenient than carrying cash or writing checks for stuff, IMO. I think in the last decade I haven't completely paid it off in a month like, 2-3 times maybe. The company has to hate me...they make NO $$$ off me at all. So they keep raising my credit limit, thinking I'm gonna go batshit & start spending beyond my means. I think it's up to around $7 million now. :P

But mine's an Amazon Visa - I get a $25 Amazon gift cert every few months.
