If yes, stop.

It's pretty freaky when you find out something you've used pretty much daily for years is linked to stuff like this. I'll be buying some new stuff tomorrow, for sure.[/url]

I don't know how people can wear contacts while sleeping. I've done it overnight once, and for a few hours on car trips etc out of necessity, but it's so painful afterwards that you would think people would stop doing it.

But yeah, that is concerning. I'm glad I don't use that solution

Eh. I don't wear contacts much anymore, but I have a bottle of ReNu (or the generic) in the bathroom.

109 cases? I think I can take my chances. Probably have much better odds of getting struck by lightning and then winning the lottery.

It's the only way I'll go. I refuse to put in and take out contact lenses every day. I will only buy the 30-day, 24-hour type. I can usually wear them for close to two weeks without them bothering me at all.

I use the Wal-Mart "Equate" generic. I'm not really concerned. Wearing contacts in itself opens you up to all kinds of maladies. I remember when softs first came out.

1) Always wash hands before handling.
2) Heat disinfection.
3) Enzymatic cleaner (expensive).
4) NEVER sleep in them.
5) Two drops and rub finger on palm wildly.

I never did adhere to any of that. Can't be worrying about this fungus.

Yeah, when I first read about this last week, they weren't sure what the cause was. Now everybody is saying it's just ReNu, but the article makes it seem inconclusive. Some of the people who got the infection used other brands.

I wear contacts everyday, but I feel relatively safe because I use that stuff that changes from peroxide to saline. I don't know if peroxide can kill fungus, but I doubt it'd contain spores or whatever. I dunno, might be time to get a new glasses prescription.

Also, one of my roommates uses ReNu, and I keep forgetting to mention this to him. When I do, I'm gonna laugh and point.

What, something else that will make you go blind?

This is the part that scares me:

Bausch & Lomb's ReNu brand contact lens solution or a generic type of solution also made by the Rochester, New York, company.

Generic, huh?Great.

yeah, but when you're one getting fusarium keratitis the odds increase substatially to 100%. granted there may be other factors involved in this epidemic and it's easy for me to say because my vision is great, but when the day comes to need corrective lenses it'll be glasses for me.

I must be weird, or something, but I started having to wear corrective lenses a couple of years ago and not even for a SECOND have I ever CONSIDERED contact lenses as a possible option.

I mean, is it really worth all of the hassle required to wear, clean, maintain, insert, remove and find lost contact lenses, as compared to just resting a pair of glasses on your nose and ears??? Is it a vanity issue? A comfort issue? I've never understood, and probably never will.

When my glasses become uncomfortable, I just take them off for a while, until I need to put them on again. Easy.

Huh? Epidemic? Even if there were only a million contact wearers, it's still only 0.0109% of the users who have reported any problem. WebMD estimates around 29 million users, so that's even lower.

If your vision is seriously terrible, then there are very few things you can do without your glasses/corrective lenses. At the moment, I can only think of two, and one of them is sleeping.

And yes, contacts are generally more comfortable, plus they allow you to wear non-prescription sunglasses. They're also far superior for most kinds of physical activity. The vanity issue could go either way.

epidemic, outbreak, they mean the same thing--just depends on how you want people to react. both just mean that there's a substantial increase in the incidence given a time and location.
