I can think of about 500,000 ways to fuck up a Captain Marvel movie...

Tell me you didn't see this coming... :D

Actually, there will be no GOOD way to make a Captain Marvel flick. It's cheese at the source.

Actually, when I read the thread title, I was shocked that it wasn't Todd because I assumed it was the album.

Of course, why would I think any thread would be about music?

#1 question--do enough people even know who Capt. Marvel is to be interested in this film?

DC had a Captain Marvel?

I want a movie about the real Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell.

Marvel was probably the most popular comic book of the golden age.

DC's Captain Marvel is definitely the real one. And of course the story is utter cheese, that's why it's so hard to do a film. But then I can say the exact same thing about Superman. Eithger way, I won't see it (or Superman), but it's still of note. I consider myself amazed they have'nt gone after the film rights for Kingdom Come

I'm only interested in this if it's part of a double-feature paired with Isis starring Evangeline Lilly in the lead role.

np: Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Gimme Back My Bullets" (Yeah, I'd probably need to "reload" shortly after seeing the aforementioned film.)

I just read The Great Comic Book Heroes by Jules Feifer. Really good read. He´s an amazing writer; full of wit. He goes over the popular writers and comics of the golden age. I'd never seen any of Eisner's stuff before, but while flipping through the book before I read it I was caught by his panels. I really like his style. Looked years ahead of anyone. I'm too weak with sickness to give this book the plug it deserves, but i recommend it, comic fan or no.

Also.... I picked up Preacher graphic novels 1-5 today. Read the series when it came out and seemed like a good idea to read it again.

Yeah I can't picture enough people being interested in this for the studio to make money off it.

Feiffer illustrated The Phantom Tollbooth AND wrote Carnal Knowledge. That's some range there, though Norman Juster's story would still work without the illustrations and a different director than Mike Nichols might have put out a much crappier film.

I remember telling my mom I was "gonna marry that woman who plays Isis when I grow up." And she got pissed because no son of hers was gonna have the hots for no half-naked false goddess hell-whore teaching their kids about the occult and making them stray from the paths of righteousness, nosireebub.

The fact that it was a saturday morning kids show pissed her off even more. "Wo-shipping the false gods right there on the t-v"

Yeah, I would be pretty leery of this movie. However, the recent Superman/Shazam comic book mini series was pretty good. It was written by that geek from the Real World. Anyway, the secret to success with this kind of character is that you can't run away from the cheesiness, but you can't embrace it too much either. And under no circumstances should it be set in the present.

you know, I think this every time I pick something of his up, even though I've rather liked his runs on both Green Arrow and Batman.
