Nothing short of amazing. Easily one of the best shows I've ever been to. The Casbah was rocking last night.

Local sensation Grand Ole Party opened the show. They were great, as usual. A fun blend of 60's inspired garage rock with the booming soulful voice of their female drummer ripping its way through dancable rock n roll. Great times.

Then came Talkdemonic. Knowing nothing of this band but a good review I read in a local zine, I had little to no expectations. I was blown away. The two of them, Lisa and Kevin, construct a sound so massive with a drumkit and a viola (and a little help from an iMac.) And they're great people. I talked to them after the show--very personable and nice.

Rounding it out was Quasi. Holy shit can Janet Weiss bring it. And Sam Coomes ain't no slouch either. It's funny--they had a bassist touring with them. I didn't catch her name. But half the time she was just standing there and watching Sam and Janet work. It was incredible. The drums were absolutely explosive. She's an amazing drummer and she HITS. SO. HARD. Coomes on the piano was altogether breathtaking. Going from complete chaos to beautiful melodic structure on a dime.

Wow. What a fun show. I danced myself silly and enjoyed every minute of it. I can't wait to see any of these bands again soon.

Talkdemonic are from Portland... never seen them live before though.

I would highly recommend it. I would almost grade them a notch above Quasi as far as live performance, although it pains me to do so.
