as a waiter at the restaurant in the casino in town

hours are till 1am or so

i have 8am classes most of the week

tutoring is my only source of income right now and i really need the extra money

but i also need to keep my grades up above the cutoff this year to apply for med

No way, A waiter is a shit job to rely on for extra money. If you are risking your grades, you need a position with a guaranteed salary rather than a job that is low paying and that relies on tips.

well i know two chicks who work there already one of which is in med right now and manages fine, the other is the bile-vomiting-from-drinking-too-much girl

so it is possible to cope with the work, and tips are pretty sweet since its foreign tourists who dont realise we dont tip in NZ

waitering is better here as you dont rely on tips, see above post

That's good if you know other students who have been able to manage it. Go for it then, although if you work in a casino, does that mean you'll have to wear a cocktail dress?

I tended bar and did a little waitering for 5 years during undergrad (and three years before that). I actually miss it somedays, but its awfully hard on your body and psyche at times.

uh, waiting tables is shitty? not here it's not. i know a few people that waited tables and banked, pulling in close to $800 a week sometimes, for 4 days of work.

and pulling a guaranteed salary happens after you finish school.
