that thread just made me remember that there is a movie being planned/made about keith moon w/ mike myers playing moon. wtf? doesn't it seem more obvious to have someone like jason schwartzman play moon? he's younger, plays drums, and fucking looks like moon. i haven't heard anything about this movie since last year. is even still planning on being made?

Last I read it was still a go. I agree that it seems an odd choice, based on all the reasons you mentioned.

I don't know. The more I think about it, the more I think it's possible for Myers to pull it off. I don't think the age thing will necessarily be an issue and I think Myers has alot more "range" then he is given credit for and he's pretty good at pulling off the absurd.

Is Schwartzman a more obvious fit? Yes
Can Myers pull this off? Possibly.

AND, I don't think the general public really equates Keith Moon with being young or old...he's been dead awhile...and make up...and God and the Bible.

They should have gotten Dana Carvey, i mean, he fucking played with U2 via satellite!

And he's played with Aerosmith and i can't even remember who else.

Who the fuck has this Schwartzman kid played with? Phantom Planet? Those whiny ass bitches aren't fit to lick Dana Carvey's mighty kick drum pedal.

Schwartzman is a more natural fit, I guess, but more people will go to a Myers movie. And honestly, I only know Schwartzman in the creepy nerdy type roll. There might be more depth but he seems like a character actor to me.

I was trying to figure out how to say he looks too much like a molo, but you pretty well nailed it. And the box office thing. You gotta have some star power if this bugger's gonna be seen by anyone.

Mike Myers is, at this point, 12 years older than Moon was when he died.

This will be hella-lame.

Except Keith Moon looked like he was 65 when he died.

If I was about to invest untold millions of dollars into a biopic about KEITH MOON, I think I'd want to cover my ass by giving the lead to a box-office star that guaranteed laughs AND audience interest. That way, I might make my money back.

But Jason Schwartzman? Good pick everybody. He'd guarantee you about 8 bucks at the box office.

if that's the case, might as well get Brad Pitt to play Daltry and Dave Chappelle to play Townshend. that'll bring in the duckets!

Welcome to the film biz.

As imaginary producer, I'd take Pitt as Daltrey without hesitation. Chappelle means bupkis though - he could have a cameo as Jimi Hendrix.

I don't think Myers is that much of a stretch. I think he visually looks something like Moon. Not like Schwartzman does but you can see it. He also familiar with English accents and can pull off an outlandish character but with depth like 54. Not to mention, Kevin Spacey did Bobby Darin recently and although I didn't see it, I heard favorable things about it.

Schwartzman looks like skinny Mod-era Moon, while Myers looks more like bloated '70s excess Moon.

You can throw the guy from So I Married An Axe Murder onto that pile, too.*

And Fat Bastard, for that matter.

Basically, Myers has Wayne, European-accent guy, and jokey normal Myers (see: Cat In The Hat).

*Pile being the key word here.
