So, as previously stated here, I've been a little under the weather re: my pursuits as a musician. After over ten years I nearly decided to give it up this past winter. Anyway. things have been better lately and I've been really getting back into it: writing songs on my own, singing in a choir, and jamming with friends.

All that to say that I just got the most wonderful and encouraging piece of news. My friends Raising the Fawn have asked me to sing with them at their upcoming show at Toronto's Olympic Island. Pretty crazy stuff. It's just backing vocals but it's still pretty damn exciting for me.

Here's the bill:
Broken Social Scene
Bloc Party
Feist
Raising the Fawn
J Mascis

Just needed to share the good news.

An now...three rock bananas to express my current sentiment:

:rockbanana: :rockbanana: :rockbanana:

Sounds like a blast. I'm jealous of all the musically talented Obners.

alex, that is so so so cool. you have no idea how happy i am for you and how jealous that you get to be on the bill with amazing bands like BSS andBloc Party. What I would give to get to meet those people.

Rock on girl, and never give up on music....it's the most important thing in the world.

Good on ya, lady.
That'll stoke the creative fires and further inspire you, for sure.
Have a great time and bring us back a full report.

Neato...congrats. Sounds like you've also kinda broadened yer horizons, in terms of being in different roles. That kind of diversity is the perfect cure for the "feel like quitting" attitude.

Yeah, a little intimidating though. I've met BBS before so that's okay, but Feist? Yikes. It's gonna be a big stage. I've never played to that many people before---even if it's just backing vocals.

Sweet of you to say, but I don't think I can step anywhere near that woman---probably literally, but certainly musically.

Hey, we're all better than we think, Polly. My version of "Eyeball Kid" in the shower this morning was just as good as Waits and I even got the percussion right.

You gonna rehearse and everything or is it going be "Austin City Limits" backing vocals. You know the kind where Kris Kristofferson wanders onstage and croaks indecipherable backup for Emmylou on some bluegrass standard he hasn't heard since he was 20?

Then everyone comments about what a genuis he is, even though he was drunk and was singing "Possum Holler" behind Emmylou's "Sinner, You Better Get Ready."

Something like that.

Actually I've sung before with them---for their record launch. It's a---oh gawd is this ever going to bring comments----um, it's a three-way a capella part. Last time we performed it we just ran through it backstage quickly beforehand.

(Okay boys... go ahead, here, I'll seperate out all the words for you in advance: three-way,. backstage, hand, quick... did I forget one?)

edit: sorry Frosted, I could just see it coming a mile away as I typed that.

Well "launch" and "perform" can also be dirtied up. Any word, actually. You also said "coming a mile," Beavis.

Noticed that one too but figured I'd just let that one go---you know---for the kids.
