How about the Silent Hill movie? :)

Which I did not see.

I haven't signed up for netflix. I probably will soon.

But, I have to say, I don't understand how people actually enjoy Broken Flowers. I thought the movie was awful. It took them a slow hour and a half to get to the point, which was, all you have is the present. I love Bill Murray and think he is a great actor, but I felt like there was some significant character missing in this movie. It was a mediocre movie that was only mad interesting with the obvious and cliche comic relief neighbor. There was not much substance to the characters at all.

I gave that movie a big old thumbs down. Especially for being written and directed by Mr. Jarmusch.

I thought Ju-On (to add a late 2 cents) was WAY better than The Grudge. The plot is basically that the spirit of revenge takes over and has it's way with Japan. That's all the plot you get. There is some intertwining of characters which I thought was done much much better in Ju-On than in the Grudge. The Grudge just seemed like they threw together a handful of bits from each character's story to make a 2 hour film. But Ju-On actually had some story and character development for some of the main players.

EDIT: For those of you haven't already seen it, you should put "Pretty Persuasion" on your lists.

The Getaway (original)

A HUGE chunk of that movie was filmed in my hometown. The scene where McQueen and McGraw jump in the river and swim is the EXACT spot where I got arrested 10 years later for trespassing (as detailed in another thread).

I was like six years old at the time they were filming this, and the only memory I have is sitting with my Mom in our car waiting for my Dad to come out of the liquor store, when this classic (still not so old back in '72) Mustang screeched in out of nowhere and parked right in front of us (parallel curbside). Out hops McQueen and my Mom damn near pulled a Chicken Lady and had a vagsplosion right there on the spot. She kept screaming, "THAT'S STEVE McQUEEN! THAT'S STEVE McQUEEN!" I kind of wish I would have been old enough to truly appreciate seeing that dude off-screen, but IN CHARACTER.

I locked in the $20ish all you can eat rate a month at blockbuster a couple of years ago with 2 out at a time... late fees were kicking my ass before then tho. Tuesdays I go in and get the latest releases.

But I do understand how if you live in a serious urban area how netflix would be amazing for you.

I think its just the opposite. If you live in a rural area, Netflix is the thing to do, because most rentals places don't backlog indie/foreign/docs/etc. I used to do the Hollywood video thing, which was cool, but then I just got sick of driving to the store, or returning them. Now, I watch the netflix movies, and drop them in the mailbox at work. With emusic, its one of the best things about the internet.

Not sure I'm following you... What do you define as rural? The business plan of netflix is to appeal to those who find it easier to order than visit the store. Honestly bub, Netflix is about getting product out, and if you live in a city where it's a pain in the ass to either get to, or drive within.. netflix is for you. I'm fairly certain that any small population around 5K has a video store at this point, coast to coast.
