A few friends and I have been going rollerskating every week on Tuesdays. This promoter is throwing a skate night.....hipster crowd, sweet music (electro, old school breaks, booty music, etc), hot wimenz with high socks and short shorts (i'll try and get pics of them next week).

So any of you folks rollerskate?

Here's some pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalen/

I would totally go if something like that happened around here. I don't think I've been since college.

Not since middle school but it was always fun.

Love the Boxer by the way (always a brindle fan)

All I could find was a regular live band/rollerskating warehouse party that apparently no longer goes on, and a meetup group with like 20 members. Maybe I'm just not "in the know," however.

I would go if I knew where to go. The Rainbow roller rink on Clark Street was torn down a year or two ago to make room for condos. Because Chicago doesn't quite have enough of those.

"Doo Doo Brown" is stuck in my head now. That, and a picture of Heather Graham in Boogie Nights. I'm a happy girl.

Roller skating is white trash here in Nebraska. They closed one of the rinks here in Lincoln and closed the one in my hometown. The only other rink in Lincoln also has an indoor skate park for blades, bikes and boards.
Roller Derby has made a huge comeback around these parts, Lincoln, Omaha, KC and Minneapolis are developing some league for derby girls.

The last time I personally went skating was at age 16. Our wrestling team went on a friday night with our cheerleaders.

Me, me, meeee...I have such a hard time getting adults to go rollerskating...Good on you...of course, I competetive skated from 6th through 10th grades, so I am pretty confident in my balance (haven't been in about 5 years though...am going to drag boyfriend to a rink soooonnn...and he better like it....had to send him a pic of me in my skating days to convince him, heh). Oh, and nothing better than Parliament when rollerskating, heh.

no doubt. some P got dropped last Tuesday, and the dresses almost came off.

it'd be sweet if the rink served alcohol. that's the only thing that's missing.

flasks!

Ermmm...alcohol and rollerskating do not mix (unless you wear helmets!).

there is a sign in plan 9 for girls to join a roller derby team or something.

i thought about it, but if i were to do it then i need to get myself to ashland where the closest skating rink is so i can freshen up my skills or lack thereof.

I think I'm too old to be a roller derby girl. There is a "team" in Norfolk...one of 'em I've met and she is a neo-Goth chick.

my ex's new gf and sister in law play roller derby and they're both in their late 20's.

one of the windy city rollergirls is 42. you're never too old.
