I think Ghana may have pulled off the two biggest upsets in the history of the world cup. Beating the second & fifth best team in the world. Not bad for the 48th ranked team, hey.

I predict this will be the breakout game for Brazil with three goals or more by Ronaldo and Adriano. You heard it first here.

And if anyone blurts out a brazil score to me in chat before I have a chance to watch the game tonight, I'll kill 'em.

Exactly. Soccer is a great accessory for the scenester set. Wearing the jerseys make you look "realer".

Arena definitely has to go. He had them play ultra-defensive everytime we needed to play aggressive and offensive. We still wouldn't have advance with a certain draw today, but that penalty kick was complete bullshit.
The United States looked like complete crap at many points this Cup, but it is hard to overcome some shoddy refs in the last two games. I think the USA needs to go out and get a foreign coach with an offensive mindset or at least one who'll take risks and put the best players on the field for certain situation.
I know the German coach currently lives in America, he'd be an improvement. They have the cash to go out and buy a top coach to make better use of the talent.
I congratulate Ghana, because they played the game they needed to and beat the Czechs, something the US didn't do.

Umm. This is the Internet. It is International. And Americans can actually be interested in things that are outside our self-interest...

Personally I'll be rooting now for Argentina and England (Mexico will lose to Brazil) .... and not following the brackets, but it'd be too dramatic if that was the final.

US would have made a better showing except for two things:

1. Bruce Arena did not manage well.
2. We don't have world-cup class players.

I agree with this but would say that 2 was the bigger factor than 1

DING DING DING!

Until the Terrell Owens, Dwayne Wade, Michael Vick, and Randy Moss's of the US start growing up wanting to play soccer we'll never field the best US team that we possibly could.

Can you imagine if T.O. grew up developing his foot skills instead of his hand skills?

We would have a team full of 6'5 men who were the fastest people in the world and could pick you up and body slam you with ease.

Ain't happening.

absolutely. wearing a football jersey to any show in the US where a european band is playing is like saying "hi. i identify with this band more than everyone else."

Actually, it's because we have too much money, and we divide up into all kinds of different sports.

You don't need shit to play soccer. Just a cabbage and feet.

HA! Nice image.

Also, I submit this question:

Take the star forward on a large state University soccer team and take the starting running back on the same University...........who is getting more pussy thrown at him?

Isn't it all about that AND money?

Hell, UCLA and Berkeley. Indiana. Penn State.

I bet it runs pretty tight, who's getting more tight, y'know?

OK, I'll call bullshit. Americans only care about themselves, and if you think you actually do care about something outside of this country, then you aren't American.

Moderately popular when LeMond was doing well. But no one here could have picked out Miguel Indurain even if he were to have had his name stencilled on his forehead.
