I thought Venom was a different character than Spider Man? Help me to understand please!

Parker himself originally wore the black costume (during Secret Wars, many heroes got new costumes from a machine, for some reason, Spider-Man's was a living symbiote). However, it tried to take him over so he abandoned it. Then somehow Eddie Brock got a hold of it and became Venom. Someone else (shiv?) can give more details.

That's pretty much it. Reed Richards found a way to get it off Spidey and I think it escaped later and found Eddie Brock and he became Venom. Then a piece of it ripped off when Venom escaped prison and found Cletus Kasady who became Carnage, though I hope they never use him in a movie.

Fuck Venom.

But Sandman looks pretty badass and I'm glad the Goblin's back.

Hope Sandman looks better than this.

Yeah, we still don't really know what venom is going to look like.

The glimpses of Sandman look pretty cool, though. Man, a year is a long time.

I hope they never bring him back after killing him last year.

after watching the trailer, Venom will definitely appear in at least the final scene. The scenes in the church tower are ensuring it.

There isn't supposed to be a Spider-Man 4 but I wouldn't be surprised if they aim for one. Venom in S4 I could maybe tolerate.

Raimi's said there's supposed to be four villains in this one, though. Goblin and Sandman are obvious. Venom's assumed. But that still leaves a wildcard.


And Dr. Curt Connors has made appearances in the last two.

didn't they learn from batman. the more villians the more diluted the plot gets and the worse the movies gets. . .

this movie is gonna be sweet. wish I knew more about the history of venom, the belltower, etc etc to know exactly what's going on but I guess that's why the internet's around

Like they said earlier, Venom is the result of an alien symbiote that Spidey brought back to Earth with him, unknowingly. He thought it was just a snazzy new costume that could respond to his thoughts at the time. Mr. Fantastic later discovered that it was alive and it started controlling Pete. He got freaked out and the F4 separated it from him. They discovered that the symbiote is vulnerable to loud sounds and fire.

The symbiote escaped from the Fantastic Four's place, seeking revenge on Spidey. It sought out Eddie Brock, a newspaper photographer who had it in for Pete because he kept getting beat out for the good photos and assignments. The symbiote bonded with Brock giving him similar powers to Spidey -- strength, shoot webbing, climb walls, etc. -- though he was much more powerful than our webhead. He also gained all of the memories the symbiote had including Spider-Man's real identity.

Venom used this to terrorize Mary Jane and defame Spidey in the public eye because people naturally mistook him for Spidey at first. This forced Pete to go back to his traditional red and blue costume.


They've fought many times. Venom's main goal in life is to kill Spider-Man and eat his brains. But he doesn't think of himself as a villain. In fact, there's been times when Spider-Man hasn't been around where Venom's saved old women from mugging and killed and disemboweled street thugs and criminals. Like I said earlier, his biggest weaknesses are fire and sound. Spidey's lured him up to battle at the church bells a couple of times and beaten him that way. Once the bells go off the symbiote recoils and flees leaving Brock alone and vulnerable.

the best were always the venom/punisher crossovers.

the lizard's human counterpart was in the last one, it'd make sense. but still:
