A trade just now completed...Milwaukee Brewers send Carlos Lee to the Texas Rangers for P Francisco Cordero, and OFers Kevin Mench and Laynce Nix.

It's gonna be a good weekend.

It's a great trade for the Rangers. All 3 of the players they gave away weren't in their immediate plans. They're also getting Nelson Cruz and a player to be named in the deal.

Good move for the Rangers but it still ain't enough. Still need more starting pitching.

When does the Cubs Fire Sale Start?
All of these need to move:
Rusch (if possible)
Greg Maddux
Todd Walker
Aramis Ramirez
Jacque Jones
Juan Pierre
Dempster
Eyre & Howry

Angels currently only have one true 1st baseman on thier roster after sending Morales down, so they're gonna make a move. We think. We think this is the year Stoneman makes a move. We'll see.

I'm okay with keeping Ramirez but I won't be upset if they move him. He disappears for long periods of time. Juan has to go. At this point I wouldn't be upset if they shipped Prior too. I don't know what the free agency looks like this offseason but we need some space to make some room for alot of players.

Cause his career numbers have been declining and he's been pretty absymal during the first half of the season. Don't think he's worth the money to keep around.

I agree with this assessment:

he Cubs traded three young pitchers to get the 29 year-old, and they expected more than .274/.319/.360. Pierre is hitting almost .500 in July, so he might be able to get his average up to .300 as was customary before 2005. He has a terrible arm and is ranked 25th among CFs on defense. As I said when the Cubs acquired him, Pierre doesn't do a single thing well besides show up to work. He makes $5.75MM this season but will probably never be worth more than $5MM in a season ever again. It'll be a bad signing by a team that "needs a leadoff hitter."

i don't think his number have been declining, just keeping wavering up and down consistently
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/655 ... wNyiSFCLcF

and yeah he did have a bad first half, but the 2nd half so far has been really good. he's at $5.8mil.

i guess it's hard to argue with this. i just remember the days when baker used to bat lenny harris leadoff so having someone like pierre makes me happy. but you made a lot of sense.

Either way I'd rather make runs at Cameron, Soriano, and Lee.

the giants think they have some sort of chance - but even if they make the playoffs in a crappy league, they wont go anywhere. Giants should unload some players to get younger.

I remember those days too. What about the great Felix Pie? I don't know how close he is but he seems like a cheaper option that might produce at least similar results.

I don't suppose there's much chance David Wells will choke on a buffalo wing and the Red Sox will go after Zito.

Oh well.

Um...

Nix takes over in for CF (Or at least battles for time with) aging Clark,Mench takes over in LF, and Cordero becomes a frontline closer again after a great 2 months and an affordable option for next year...

Actually, all of them will be affordable, and probably with MIL next season. Lee wasn't going to be there, and they added a possible starter in CF and a Closer (with a decent replacement, no less) in MIL....

Pie leading off? Do you really want another go-around with Corey Patterson? He isn't a lead-off hitter.

And there's no way they should get rid of Ramirez. He's having a down year, but it's the first time in 30 years we've had a VERY solid 3B.

And you don't trade Prior while his value is at his lowest, that's just stupid.

Make runs at Soriano for LF, Castillo for 2B (think he's a FA), Schmidt, Mulder or Zito for the rotation. Pierre leads off. No way any of these happen. :)

It's called payroll. This team is already way overpaid and I doubt that the Tribune is gonna go Yankee payroll anytime soon. Do you really believe this team just needs to be tweaked to be competitive in the future? Do you really want Mulder? Another example of the Cubs overpaying for someone on the downside of their career. Let's add Schmidt. Another injury prone strikeout pitcher. Yea! Which brings me to Prior. Nobody doubts his ability but we need healthy pitchers. PERIOD. If they keep Prior, I'm happy but I wouldn't cry if they traded him either.Same with A-Ram. The reason to keep him is the 3b market is thin this coming FA season. But like I said, I think we need very different team next year.

Like we couldn't use Ricky Nolasco this year. Thanks Pierre. And I haven't seen enough of Pie to know that he's exactly like Patterson. I don't get to see many minor league games actually. But it seems like it's a cheap comparison. I'd preferred to have kept Nolasco and put Walker leading off. Has Pierre had that much of a better season than Cory last year?
