Haha, these rule!

Nearly twenty-five years into their musical career, Slayer is still managing to offend. The band recently saw some promotional advertising banned from the town of Fullerton, California.

The ads in question were for the band's upcoming album, Christ Illusion, due out August 8th. The city apparently demanded that they remove the Slayer ad/artwork, reportedly because they did not like the name of the band, which they feel refers to a murderer. They are also apparently offended by the antichrist and skull logo on the bench artwork.

A copy of the photo, courtesy of Blabbermouth, can be found below.

You can barely read the Christ Illusion 666 thing on the skull. It is clearly no worse than any scantily clad girl billboard. I'm actually amazed they would pay for billboards in Fullerton or any other city like that.

I live about 25 minutes from Fullerton -- I doubt the benches will still be around by the time I get down there.

Heh. Slayer's first record was in '83 so that fart could even be a fan.

I'm glad it was banned.

That's exactly the sort of art that should be confined to teenagers bedrooms.

How badass can your band be if you're advertising on bus benches?

The only thing I ever see advertised on bus benches are lawyers and dentists.

All kinds of music groups use bus benches in So Cal especially that close to a college campus or on Sunset.

This story kinda reminds me of Big Boy's billboard

Did anyone else notice that Circuit City did not show the actual artwork, and had a note saying so?

Yep, they're using the edited artwork, which I assume Walmart and other easily offended retailers will be carrying:

Which has me wondering . . . if you're buying Slayer, are you really going to be offended by the cover art?

nah you won't be offended, but fucking churchies walking by might see the cover and feel attacked by it.

well i think it's just a cardboard cover over the cd so you'll still have the original art.

I think the edited cover looks a lot cooler, even though it's stupid to censor it.
