Thanks for the heads-up, Dana!
PBS is my cable (I got none cabül).
I'll be watching.
That American Masters series is pretty excellent, too.

really looking forward to tonight's second half. i would have hated missing this.

I tivo'd it and watched maybe 20 minutes of it this morning while hoovering half a bagel. A lot of his history I was already familiar with, as I've read a lot of biographies about Andy, so I'll be interested to see what happens in the rest of the episode and tonight's ep.

As one of my artist friends told me, he always felt like Andy's art was deceptively simple and yet he got famous for it. And then he had a friend point out the "simplicity" of his own artwork, and it made him stop and think again.

Bob Colacello's book Holy Terror is an interesting read on Andy's history and life during the 54 years when he worked at Interview. He outlined his obsessions, particularly with Truman.

my favorite andy conversation (it went something like this, not sure of the exact words)

interviewer: wo you are not interested in quality, just quantity?
andy: right
interviewer: so you want your work to be on as many walls as possible
andy: no . . . i'd rahter they put them in their closets.

I didnt realize what an insanely talented and in-demand commercial artist he was in the 50's. I totally appreciate that being rejected by the art world for being in that line of work.

My fine art friends in college called it "graphic disease", but I only know of one of them who has a job involving art now.
