Sept 27: Lost "Tale of Survival" recap and maybe a bit more. Here's the ABC blurb on the show tomorrow (9/27)

"Feeling lost? Having a hard time keeping up with what’s happening on the island? ABC has the remedy for what ails you by inviting both new and avid “Lost” viewers to take an insider’s look at the most talked about, critically acclaimed show on television. “Lost: A Tale of Survival” will explore the series in a way that will bring new viewers up to date, but which current viewers will also find illuminating. From the back stories of some of the most compelling characters on television to the mysteries of the island, “Lost: A Tale of Survival” will provide an insightful glimpse into the lives of the survivors of Oceanic Airlines flight 815"

Season 3 begins new episodes 10/4... 6 straight, goes on hiatus for 12 weeks then runs 17 straight episodes.

Titles
3.01 A tale of Two Cities (jack centric)
3.02 The Glass Ballerina (sun/jin centric)
3.03 Further Instructions (locke centric)
3.04 Every man for himself (desmond centric)
3.05 The Cost of living (eko centric)
3.06 ... unknown but supposed to be a huge cliffhanger

then hiatus for 12 weeks.

Well, there's supposed to be a good number of new characters introduced. New Others, new (or rather, new to us) castaways and more.

Which makes sense. With Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Michael, and Walt gone, and Eko, Locke, and Desmond possibly out of commission, Sayid, Hurley and Charlie will need some of those background layabouts to step up.

I am pissed because there is a huge conflict of schedule's for me on wednesdays and I don't have access to TiVo anymore. I am going to have to ignore all Lost threads from here on out until the dvd's come out.

It is going to be a tough tough fall/winter/spring.

I didn't want to get too spoiler-ish, but yea, given they introduced there was really an outside world in the last episode of season 2 and we aren't dealing with a dream or purgatory, several new main characters will be introduced from what I've read. Can't wait, but I have to admit I'm a little concerned that the cliffhanger at week 6 to keep people interested for the next 12 weeks may approach "jump the shark" territory.

12 weeks is a lot of weeks to go on hiatus. i understand their desire to avoid the jumps and breaks of last year (and the uncertainty of knowing whether it was a new lost or a repeat week-to-week), but sheesh, come on.

What time is this on? I'm too lazy to navigate to ABC's page and find out on my own.

You could google "Lost schedule." Cuz that's not much navigation there.

You can probably also take a ballpark guess that it's on sometime between 8 and 11. Yeah.

You think we'll get a very special Lost Christmas episode this season? I hope so!

After all, they crashed on September 21st and it's been stated that season three stars 65 days later.

So the first episode will be November 25th. Maybe the season three finale will be a holiday one. Here's hoping.

I tune in tonight, I guess. I usually hate these placeholder specials though. I think I'd sooner continue rewatching S2 on dvd right now. I'm actually enjoying it more the second time around. I'm looking forward to the final third where everything starts happening.

What I read on Entertainment Weekly's site yesterday was that it involves the last few moments of season two, with Penny:

Damon Lindelof Wrote:
"Something's going to happen in the middle of season 3 that blows the doors off the show again," he says. "You'll look at [the Penny scene] again and say, 'Sixty percent of what I thought I saw was dead-on, but the other 40 percent I never even considered!'" (http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,1449 ... 0_,00.html)

The only thing I'm concerned about this season is introducing an actual element of love stories - Jack and someone new, Kate and probably Sawyer, etc. I'm really not interested in that crap and I can't believe most viewers are.

Instead of naming it "Kate Finds Love: WTF" or something.

But . . . but much of it is over the holiday season, which is kind of nice in a way because then there's no worrying about missing episodes in a time of the year when it seems like there are a million excuses not to watch TV. Granted, it'll be another 6 weeks or so after New Years when it comes back, but that's not all that long, either - and then it's 17 weeks of brand new episodes, uninterrupted. That's something like the middle of February through the end of May, I think. I can deal with that.

Pretty good recap.... interesting on the non-essential scenes included which may go toward predicting next year.

The hiatus is brutal but probably the way to go.
Lost is more like a movie set than a TV production. I'm sure it's a hectic shoot. New sets are and 'backstory' fodder is almost always required.

Last year when they would do 4 and off 3 weeks then do 6 and off 5 weeks, etc... the continuity was shattered. Maybe two blocks will work because last year's scheduling was detrimental to the series.

I never understood the significance of Hurley and Sayid listening to the walkie-talkie and getting a radio station. It felt like it was just there and didn't add anything to the story or lead up to something else.

Unless, it was foreshadowing of the Arctic guys at the end of the last episode. If Sayid can find a radio station from off the island, then they can find the island. But is that it, or is there more to it?
