I don't own anything, but I know about them and apparently they're playing Northampton in November and a friend mentioned going last night.

Good live? The ticket is slightly more than I'm used to paying, but generally I think myself far richer than I actually am and don't let that stop me.

I used to love this band. Their live show was always better than the record. I recommend them. I haven't seen them live in a few years though.

Save your dough.

Unless you like thin sounding noodly jam rock masquerading as jazz.

don't listen to phil - he's a cranky old bastard in a 29-year-old's body. i haven't seen them in a few years, but really enjoyed them live - they are a hell of a bunch of good musicians, unless they've caught the suck since then.

With them, teh suck was a congenital birth defect.

You like 10-25 minute songs with lots of meaningless solos and some rehashed grooves? Knock yourself out. Sure they're executed solidly, but nothing special.

Go buy a Jimmy Smith album instead.

this is a good idea, but there are worse ways to spend a night than at a MMW concert.

someday you're gonna look back on this time living together and you'll be like, yeah Phil was cranky, but damn if he wasn't right about EVERYTHING.

You'll probably call me to tell me, and i'll be like, you just figured this out NOW?

She didn't mention it was with Scofield. I hate to say it, but that ALMOST makes it worth it, provided they do some scofield compositions. If you want to hear what happens when a bunch of skilled musicians who can't write a tune are hired by an extremely skilled musician who can, pick up John Scofield's album "A-go-go". Then compare it to MMW's best album, Combustication. Then proceed to shake your head in disbelief.

They haven't really sounded like Jimmy Smith retreads since like 1996. Go and tell me how it is.

They never sounded like Jimmy Smith retreads.

I know i'm being an asshole, but having been in a band that caters to the same demographic, i feel marginally entitled to make these sweeping generalizations.

Go see Taj instead, you'll have a blast.

And off the point, but Phil, are you 'stocky'?

Kate Voegele's page Wrote:
But Voegele shows enviable poise, as if she's too young even to realize that she should be nervous. Wearing flip-flops, cargo pants, and a white half-shirt, she wields a guitar half her size. Phil is the second biggest know-it-all I've ever met.

Thanks for the input, all. We'll see if I end up at the show or not soon enough. I mean, I found myself at the Warped Tour in August, so it has been a year of putting myself in unexpected places.

Let's be honest, at that SXSW gig, i was fucking fat. I'm presently 2/3rds of what I weighed then, and i'm STILL fat.

So how did you find that quote? Did you go check out Kate Voegele? She's so amazing, i'd love to be in her band again. Damned long distance.

TAKE YOUR BOY TO SEE TAJ MAHAL INSTEAD!

Unless he's paying, buying dinner, driving, and the sex is awesome, don't drop that much money on a ticket you're unsure of.

But if he doesn't want to go see Taj, you should totally take laura. You will dance your fool ass off.

Who did i bump out of the top spot? Look, it's for your own good, before you know it you'll be going to see String Cheese Accident, Widespread Panic, Umphrey's McGee, Mofro, The Big Wu, Liquid Soul, and god knows who else. You'll smell like patchouli, you'll never wear undergarments again, you'll be paying for your boy's schwag and both of your tickets by making marijauna brownies, and frying donuts in parking lot venues.

I've seen it go down.

Your only hope is to improve his tastes, stat.

No way in hell I'm ever going to pretend to like anything for a guy.

Plus, I will never give up makeup or things that smell pretty. You underestimate me, good sir.

You didn't answer my question. And LSD can even make patchouli smell good, or so i hear.

Re: your question; a friend in Seattle (not you, kabob). He disagrees with me on things we agree about. You haven't really topped him yet.

Are you suggesting LSD? I'm confused (me stoopid).

It looks like Scofield is included after all.
