I have also given up finding both the inseam and the waist that fit all in one pair. Now I just get the right waist size, but they're always 2 inches too long, so I wear the riding boots every day (black, inconspicuous), and it doesn't seem to matter.... they just bunch up down there a bit.

here's my take on jeans-- get what feels good to you.

There are people who will SWEAR by the $200/pair Diesel/Seven/Paper jeans. I myself have never found a pair of any of those that will actually fit my fat ass, and to be perfectly honest, I don't consider myself fat.

With that said, if you have an opportunity to try on the high end jeans, do it. It can't hurt to try. And if you can get them on sale, even better. Check out bluefly.com or check in with your local friend/discount connection that works at a store near you.

As for Target/Old Navy jeans, well, my belief is you get what you pay for. If you're looking for some cool duds that *may* last a year, stylistically and materially, then that's the way to go (and I'm not being snotty, as I buy jeans from both places all the time). If you're looking for something a little higher end, try out the BR's and Nordstrom's. If you pay good money for good jeans, take care of them as such... don't just toss 'em in the laundry with the rest of your darks in regular detergent and expect them to last forever. Wash them on the delicate cycle with the dark rinse Woolite or something similar.

My .02.

Now for jeans, I've only ever worn Levi's 501 and the average pair lasts me about 6 or 7 years. I buy them wherever they're cheapest.

btw, Rodney, I've seen you in person, and I wouldn't consider you "girthy." Pretty normal size for a guy your height, I'd say.

They make jeans for my hips. They make jeans for my ass. They make jeans for my waist. The problem is, they don't make jeans for my hips, ass and waist.

My target jeans have held up better in a year than my Ralph Lauren ones did, and don't even mention Old Navy or Gap jeans, because those were pure shit.
Target jeans are mostly Mossimo, which used to be a fairly trendy name in the early 90's.

Get the right waist size and take it to get altered to the right inseam for like $3. fI have stubby legs so I need like a 29" inseam, where most are like 32". You need to find the right tailor though, so the hems don't look like shit.

I'm a big fan of Diesels, but they can be a bit slim so I had to get used to that. Have a bunch though. Like Seven's and they tend to be less expensive. Have one pair of AG's and I like them for the most part as well.

i was so against these new "high end" jeans, but my wife loves 'em. she finally ended up just buying me a pair of seven's, and i have to admit, they are the most comfortable, best fitting pair of jeans i've ever owned. i'm completely sold.

None of you have ANYTHING to complain about.

I get my jeans from polo.com...found the size that fits right, could give afuck how much they cost..they would be a bargain at thrice the price, provided I didn't have to put up with the looks of sales clerks who "know we don't have anything in YOUR size"

I just bought jeans last week for the first time in a long time. Couldn't remember my size so I looked up the two pairs I owned. One was perfect length, a bit big in the waist. The other was tight in the waist, a bit short. Both were 32 x 32.

So I ended up looking for that in the store and then trying them on to make sure. They turned out fine. I buy all my jeans from Bluenotes.

I wear a pair of Loomstate jeans about 3 times a week. They are the best, most comfortable piece of clothing I've ever worn. The two other pair in the jeans cycle are LEVIs.
