I can’t believe my eyes…

Pitchfork:
Wide Awake 8.7
Digital Ash 7.2

Drowned In Sound:
Wide Awake 5 Star
Digital Ash 3.5 Star

Stylus (Album(s) of the week):
Wide Awake A
Digital Ash B+

Unbelievable, as I thought that the indie music press hated him as much as most indie rock listeners. I have been avoiding this album until it came out because I was expecting a couple of duds.

I’m sure some of you have heard these already so, what do you think? Believe it or not but this has made my day and now ready. Didn’t read the reviews yet but curious on how Obner types feel?

The newspaper this morning gave Bright Eyes 5/5 and 4/5

I like "Wide Awake", with the one listen, better than "Digital"...
But neither are "Great", nor of the "Best New Music" status they're blindly being afforded...

I'm down with em. Best Buy is having both tomorrow for $7.99 each.

Some reviews have said that "Wide Awake.." is the best Americana album this side of Gram Parsons.

Color me intrigued. As for the techno experiment, I'll probably pass.

Wait, what's this techno experiment you speak of? I'm down with techno, so that intrigues me.

And I can't believe the ratings. I like Bright Eyes. But I didn't think many others did.

It's not "Techno". It's that electro-pop stuff that everybody's been ripping off of Jimmy T. for the past 2 years...then again, he does co-produce some songs on the album...

It's OK, but not up to par with "Hungry for a Holiday" (the best song off of the bright eyes/album leaf collabo), and it all too often leaves Conor Oberst's voice hanging out there at the forefront which, on this album, is not a good thing...

What I've heard of the non-digital one is pretty good... sounds a lot like "Lifted...." But honestly hearing it just made me realize I'm pretty much over Bright Eyes.

Well, I enjoy "Heartbreaker", et al., as much as the next guy, but who wouldn't want to pee on Ryan Adams? I think it'd be quite humorous, myself...

Plus, if he were on fire, it could put out the flames...

I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning sounds like the better of the two albums. A lot of perfect 10 from major publications, like I stated Stylus and DiS. Also 10's from Alternative Press, Los Angeles Times (An album with the simmering glow of a masterpiece), and Q Magazine (The finest alt-country album this side of Gram Parsons). Rating of 9's or just under from Pitchforkmedia, Spin and Uncut (Where Ryan Adams replicates old records, this is something new. [Album of the Month]). In fact AMG is the only negative review I have seen and I have not heard one person say I hate it, yet.

Now it has been built up too much...

When all publications tend to agree or disagree with something, I take notice. Critics have turned me on to many releases throughout the years but the Internet has changed things. Will eventually make up my own mind but this really caught me off guard more than anything else.

For me, no. I'll usually get what I want regardless of the reviews on it... if it's something that I don't know too much about, then I might take it into consideration- but not until I hear for myself.

I'm just honestly surprised the rating Pitchfork gave Bright Eyes' new album because I know they weren't too hyped on them before.

I think that's about right. Good, but it ain't earth shattering. There was one song that I really liked, and none that I hated or loved.

I can't tell if it's because the album is just OK< or that it PALES in comparison to Lifted, which is awesome.

I tend to judge all albums of this type against BDB's About A Boy OST and Hour of the Bewilderbeast.

booth are about 9.5/10 in my book

I'm just glad that there's another one of those Creepy Obherst spoken word/rant things that remind me why I don't take him all that seriously. I'd still reccommend buying it to someone who likes singer-songwriter stuff, though...

hahaha! pumachik, it hardly sounds like techno. more slight glitch/electronica influence is all.

it's -not- proper techno.

yeah got it. threw me off there for a second. the term techno gets thrown around so easily and anything electronica-sounding is supposedly techno. it peeves me!
