I work 60-70 hours a week. Of course those in private industry know how lazy we in education are. Business, ah, now that's reall labor.

I've got a stack of essays to grade and I can't bring myself to do it tonight. Should've taught math.

So tell me how it gets fixed, Phil et al. Speaking as a guy who found himself getting a bachelors that's ONLY good if you teach, yet still turning it down because everyone I knew who did it said the same as the above... How do you make the job worth it? Is it just pay? Could taxpayers be made to see/accept that, and cough it up? I wonder about this a lot, is why I ask.

1. Why do teachers incur this wrath more than prison guards? Police officers? All of which are paid on a much higher scale (with less formal education) than teachers. I never hear, goddamn useless prison guards.

2. Superintendents last less than two years.

without question, i would pay more taxes for public education, especially for teacher's salaries.
my guess is that this is no surprise to anyone.

Probably because most people will have encountered useless, stupid, and/or hostile teachers during our youth, while very few of us will have crossed paths with prison guards.

Insufficient evidence... poorly supported argument. I guess I'll need to give you a D as a useless, stupid and/or hostile "taxpayer."

Sure. I'll take that D. But eventually I'll graduate from high school and go on to a limitless future, whereas you'll still be stuck there, patrolling those dank, dull hallways.

I never saw any teenage boys there. Just old hippies. :)

I'ma get me another degree someday. Not education. The only thing that stops me from doing it immediately is that going to school would put a damper on playing music, i think. And i fear that a change of career would put a bigger damper on playing music.

That is all.

Oh, and this job, at least the second half of each day when i'm at the high school, has reinvigorated my love of teaching.

So there's that.

Yep, that's it for the American working middle class, the middle three quintiles, a limitless future. Yep, in a rigidly controled economy that rewards investment, not work nor ideas, limitless future. Yep. Been real limitless the last 20 years. "Supersize those fries m'am?" Even England rates higher on social mobility these days. "America" got lost somewhere the 70's.

As for dank, dull hallways... "don't stand, don't stand, don't stand so close to me..."

If I could afford it, and could get certified in CA, i would apply in your district.
