I still have touble with effect/affect, though.

"affect" is the verb. "effect" is the noun.

But affect can also be a noun, as in affectation - The conscious subjective aspect of feeling or emotion.

See? Not as easy as it seems.

maybe i'm crazy, but aren't "affect" and "affectation" two different words? one has an extra -ation, right? "affect" is always a verb. "affectation" is always a noun. (although, "effect" can be a noun and a verb, but the verb is a different meaning.)

No, two different words. The definition I gave was for Affect(N), which is the root of affectation. Sloppy writing on my part.

"Isn't there a statue of limitations on that?"
"Statute."
"What?"
"Statute of limitations. It's not a statue."
"No, statue."
"Fine, it's a sculpture of limitations."

We had someone who could eat the hoe thing, although for them it was a mute point. Thank god she quit--I thought they kept her 'round because she was an ace accountant but a shitty financier--turns out she sucks at accounting too. She probably had trouble "logic-ing through" her problems.

Accrost/accrossed bugs the hell out of me too.

most people leave out the first R in suRprise. It bothers me.

some good ones listed. Guesstimate, Supposably.

Another is when people spell congratulations incorrectly. Congradulations.

The all time irritation for me right now is how "natives" of Norfolk pronounce the city name. Instead of norfuck or even nor.folk. they pronounce it Naw-fuck. Drives me batty.

Oh gosh, And I definitely second Orientated and Irregardless

This fucking kills me. Not the mistake, mind you, the correction.

It's a statement about not caring. It doesn't exactly contradict the intended meaning when someone carelessly says it wrong. I mean, it's not like they fucking care.

I purposefully use both.

If I hate something, I say I couldn't care less.

But sometimes I'll be a smart ass and say I could care less about something, if I just kind of dislike it.

"My bitchy ex-girlfriend was dumped by her new boyfriend? I couldn't care less."

"Gas prices are up? I could care less."

Not entirely on topic:

Back in my home video days, after receiving the promo package for the soon-to-be-released Jack Nicklaus' Golf My Way instructional video, the label sent out a follow-up correction notice:

"Please note that there was an error in the text of the Golf My Way brochure. Jack Nicholson is not left handed."

Labor instead or labour.
Behavior instead of behaviour.
Color instead of colour.
Mustache instead of Moustache.
Organize, recognize, realize instead of organise, recognise or realise.

English, innit.

The kids I teach spell "definitely" like that and the spell check always tell them to go for "defiantly," which changes the meaning considerably.

Also, these kids are spelling "Santa Claus" as "Clause," based on the Tim Allen movie, I'm guessing. That makes me impossibly sad.
