I saw this on gorillavsbear yesterday: http://gorillavsbear.blogspot.com/2006/ ... -bear.html

I couldn't bring myself to read the whole Hipinion thread, though.

So this is now my number one of the year. Man, it grew on me.

And I'm seeing her tomorrow for the first time. This is the most excited I've been for a show in a long time. I wish there was anybody at work that I could tell/brag to.

It's not out for another month and a half still, but I'd recommend downloading it.

Out tomorrow.

I realised this morning that I may have been a bit foolish in assuming one of the record stores here will have it. If I can't find it tomorrow, I'll be quite let down. But there's a chance.

I'm pretty sure this came out last week. That's when I got my copy, anyway.

I posted a little about it in the NP thread. I think it's good, but I'm still not sure how much I really like it.

Amazon and Wikipedia both have the 14th as the date. And Pfork just reviewed it today.

You own a physical copy already?

Yeah, I bought it last Tuesday. I was sure I'd seen somewhere that the release was the 7th, and that's why I asked for it when I went in to pick up my Pavement pre-order last week.

Could be that Criminal just got theirs in early and went ahead and sold me one. Wouldn't be the first time.

I bought it at her concert last Tuesday. Great show, too. I'm kinda surprised I like her and this album as much as I do, considering her first one REALLY didn't do it for me.

I still think the first half of the album is superior to the last. Gotta wonder if Pitchfork's 9.4 has anything to do with them having leaked the album. It's a great work, nonetheless.

This album is beautiful. And I just got back from seeing her, the show was beautiful as well. You could have heard a pin drop in the crowd, everyone was there to listen. The fact that she can play and sing like that, nearly non-stop, for close to an hour and a half is also pretty impressive.

And for those still debating her looks, I found her to be quite lovely from up close.

At first, I was disappointed by it. But it definitely grew on me. And it's easily my number one of the year.

Wow,I'm blown away how much some of you love her. While I agree the music is enchanting often, her voice is scary as hell.

Which is why I just can't listen to her. She makes Victoria Williams sound like Ella Fitzgerald.

were you at the early or late show, mr.?

i was there for the early show. loved the band, some people hated it. i hated her dress. i saw her at the 'pool earlier this year too. whatevs. she was a great interview.

oh, and this is one of the best albums this year. simply enchanting.

the "official" release date is nov. 14. anything anybody bought earlier are considered "street violations." if you care about charts (which most people don't/shouldn't) then that's too bad.

I was at the early show. I thought the band was good, even if the drummer and backup vocalist seemed a bit bored. granted, it was the right decision to keep the instrumentation minimal in the way that they did, as it allows her harp and her singing to stand out in the way they deserve to. I'd love to see her perform this album with a proper string section.

how did she sound at the pool? i intentionally didn't go to that show, because i imagined that a harp would not carry well in that venue.

I am not sure how I missed the sendspace on this, but if anyone wants to re-up it and send it my that'd be great.

P.S. Dalen, did you ever get my PM?

Sorry I missed you folks! I kind of went last second on a whim, I figured that this would be my best opportunity to catch her for the forseeable future.

I knew I was an idiot for assuming I'd be able to find it around here. Three record stores, three strikes. And that's it for this city. So now I either order it from them and wait or order it online and wait. Goddamit.

I'll have to actually own the damn thing before I can determine if I like it as much as Mender or more. Or less.

Here's someone who riyl riyl riyl likes it:
