There are double standards all over our society - and guess what? YOU benefit from a lot of them - but none of these double standards have to do with PMS and "males having to deal with their hormones every 8 seconds".

I'm sorry that you have to walk on eggshells when it's occuring (if you're walking on eggshells all the time, you're in the wrong relationship), but you have to understand that there are situations where it's NOT controllable. It sucks to snap at people and then apologize later. I don't like to do it anymore than the next woman, but it happens. It's like a little devil takes over, blows everything out of proportion, makes you cry, gives you cramps and suddenly life is miserable.

But, if you accuse me of having PMS and I don't have PMS, that's when shit hits the fan. You know why? Because usually when men accuse women of PMSing, it's because they're being yelled at for something stupid that they've done. My roommate likes to play bad music at ungodly levels. I've spent my life in academia and I can say I earn the benefit of any doubt just being a male. As far as I know there's no pre-existing thought that females are inferior or anything as fellow scientists, but I know that often they aren't taken as seriously. I've heard some old boys say they have to take it easier on female grad students because otherwise they'll start bawling, etc. etc. And some of them know this, too. I can't imagine it feels very good, knowing that advisors and other profs often pull punches. As my wife is a fellow scientist, she could give a hundred examples of how she just isn't treated the same as male peers. It's a bunch of crap, really, but she's succeeded in spite of it. Doing well is the best revenge.

And non-caucasians have had it so easy. It's all bullshit, that's not a double standard, that's a stereotype, and i'm not subscribing to it.

Because I'm a straight male then I can (fill in standard) __________ but anyone who isn't both straight and male cannot. Please, fill in the blanks with an actual double standard, one that I benefit from.
